Me and my friends went on a hunt in northern Utah and I had to shoot this whopper 4 times to put it down. Estimated weight is about 500 pounds. I shot it with a new recurve I made for myself last week, 60" 52 lbs.

Holy crap :scared:
I didn't even know they had wild pigs in Utah.
-
Oh Baby that is a swarper....Congrats on your HUGE Trophy. I bet he's gonna be good eatin' too.
That's the kind of hunting I would like to do. Chasing those BIG PIGS has got to be funner than all get out.
Thanks for the pic.
Nala
P.S. is that size pig just a fluke for out there or are they fairly common?
-
That'll make one heck a BBQ sandwich won't it!

Thats bad out man! Thats a texas sized pig fo sho! I noticed you said you made the bow. Is that something you do professionally or just a hobby? Reason i ask is that im looking at building one after season is over. Looks like a glass laminated bow as best i can tell. Thats what im wanting to build.

Good thing you started with a little one, lol. Congrats on the trophy that is awsome!!!
-
Man, thats a porker for sure. I didnt even know you had hogs out there that big. I thought we had the lock down on big pigs down here in GA.
Im gonna call you later this evening Mike and we can talk more about you coming down to hunt.
-
Congrats! That is some porker-looks like a sow-is that right? Well done and with your own made bow to boot what an accomplishment.

I believe I would have run from a pig that size or at least been unwilling to drag after the shot(s).
Make a bow, shoot a monster.... Hmmmm - perhaps you could put together a story for the Bowyers Journal and submit it to Curtis.

We had a great time on the hunt. Utah doesn't officially have a wild population of hogs but this 6000 acre cattle ranch we went to has a decent population of feral/russian boar crosses. The ones my friends shot were all black. I thought I'd get more penetration than I did but when we gutted them out I could see why my arrows only went in half way. This pig had about 4" of fat around the shoulders and then the ribs were a few more inches thick. My first shot deflected off a willow and hit the pig in the rump but I was able to quickly cut the pig off and put 3 quick shots into the boiler room. My bow is 52#@28" and I was shooting goldtip arrows with 125 grn magnus stingers for a total arrow weight of 500 grns. We had a great time and I enjoyed seeing a part of my state I'd never been to before. Thanks Mike

I forgot to mention that it was a sow. Kyle, I make bows as a hobby, this bow was #24, I really enjoy making t/d recurves and longbows and I do occasionally order and shoot custom bows because I like to see how how some of the top craftsmen out there make their bows which helps me to make my designs better without too much expensive trial and error. But I usually hunt with my own bows. Mike

That's some pig!

WOW!!!...Was that Hogzillas girlfriend? Great Hunt! Cool Photo! Some good eating! Congrats! :)
-
YESSSSSSS!!!!! :notworthy:
-
Thats a good one wingnut! It's illegal to have a pure russian boar in Utah so all the pigs are crosses half feral pig, half russian. All I know is it was one of the funnest hunts I've been on and would love to go down south were the things are all over. Mike

That is one big Oreo. Congrats on both the bow and hog.

Heres a few pics of my new recurve that I used on the hog. Specs are; 60"52#@28", 18" riser of pauferro with a stripe of bacote and micarta, the limbs are a single taper of actionboo with .030 veneers of bacote and micarta and pauferro limb tips. It's a simple but good looking bow thats actually pretty quick. Congratulations, again!
-
Very nice and one sharp bow to boot. Great jobs!
-
Wow now thats a PIG. Nice looking bow ya get there.<><
-
Thanks for all the comments guys. You make me laugh. The guys that run this ranch have a good program going. They cross a pure russian boar with a feral pig and they end up huge. The smallest hog we got was 350#. The biggest boar on the place weighed in at 930#. Now that's a pig! I think I'd have some good backup chasing a boar like that around. The guide was telling me that a few weeks ago a guy shot a huge boar 6 times with a 300 win. mag and it jumped in the river and got away/sank. Mike
-
Man-O-Man what a hog! I didn't know there were hogs in Utah. You need a front end loader for that one.
Beautiful bow too!
Congrats,
Dennis
-
Congrats again on that monster. Mike, does that bow have 'static tips'? Can you share the name of the outfitter, please?
Thanks,
Bjorn
-
Bringin' home the bacon!! Great looking pig and great looking bow, Mike. I bet that got the heart pumping to get something that big in bow range. You said you shot it three times quickly after the rump shot. Did it just sit there and take it or did you keep chasing and shooting? Awesome pig man. Matt
-
Good job on the Pig....
Now go and shoot a big one.... :bigsmyl:
-
I heard that now they are seeing hogs on the Strip in Arizona. Can you believe that!
Nice hog Mike, and a pretty bow. Good to see that everyone's not going metal riser crazy.
-
Buglmin,I have a friend that shot a wild pig down on the border about 2 years ago but I think the gov. trappers wiped them out since then. My recurve doesn't have static tips. Mike G I have one of your armguards and really like it. I really enjoy shooting my own bows but honestly I think my Rose Oak bow "wildcat" I just got a month ago from Brandon Stahl is top of the class as far as recurves go. He made me such a pretty bow I didn't dare hunt with it, so I used my limb design and copied his riser for this bow so they both feel the same. That way I can hunt and beat up on mine and use his for 3d. If any of you want a comfortable, smooth shooting bow check him out. He has an ad going in the sponsor classifieds right now. Mike
-
Yea, but hogs on the Strip? I guess the guy found them a few weeks ago. Fish and Game told him that he shoulkd of shot them all. Guess there was a sow and bout seven little ones.
What you do with the meat? Hope you ground it up into sausage? Howed it taste?
