Title: Hill Country Bows "Harvest Master" lives up to it's name (pics)
Post by: 4runr on October 29, 2008, 08:16:00 PM
My good friend Roman Hershberger called me today when I just happened to be on the road headed in his direction. (I was not headed to his house, just in the general direction)

He said he had some excitment in the woods this morning, and if I had a camera with me I should stop by. (He said I could stop by anyway   :D   )

Well I just happened to buy my wife a new tiny little digital the other day and she had it with her. We had business to atend to first at the woodburner store,so after business we headed to his house.

Now Roman has had his share of excitment lately, his wife just gave birth to their ninth child, and he's been pretty busy building bows and furniture.

When we pulled down the driveway at his place deep in the heart of Amish country, there were corn shocks in the field on one side, and the corn field on the other side was picked clean. That could be the reason for all the buck sightings they've had the last couple of days.

When we pulled up to the shop parking area, there on the concrete slab was a big brown body with lots of bone head gear. I got out of the car and went to look. Roman came out of the shop with a big grin on his face. After hand shaking and back slapping we carried him to a better position for pictures.

Now understand that Roman, being a devout Amishman, will not pose for pictures. I respect that in him and don't push it. I was so pleased for him, as much as if I had taken the deer myself.

I have known Roman for about a year and 1/2, and consider him as close a friend as I have in this world. The bow he took this buck with is one he has been developing for about a year and he said it would be his hunting bow for this year. IT WORKS!

Yep, great buck Roman!  Thanks for posting this Kenny.

I should stop down and see Roman.  I almost bought that left handed one piece bow that he had in St. Clairsville last winter.  That sucker was nice!  If I remember right, he lives on the same road that the "Inn at Honey Run" is on.  Must be about 6-7 miles from my house.

Also, congratulations on the addition to the family!

Goose

Great deer  congrats.

With due respect, and please withdraw the question if it is inappropriate....   Does Roman hunt wearing his blue clothing or is he or other Amish allowed the use of camo clothing ?  From a tree ?  From a blind ?

Lots of questions come up.

Again

congrats on harvesting that fine deer.

He has a ghillie suit he made that he has used successfully that I know of.

They wear camo clothing to hunt.

In this case Roman took an old gray terry cloth bath robe and made an excellent ghillie out of it. When I was there, he put on his ghillie around the corner of the shop, then told my kids to find him. There was a corn field next to the shop and they had cut the corn and stacked them in shocks, he was hiding next to a corn shock, if he hadn't moved we wouldn't have found him. He did an excellent job on the ghillie. He wasn't wearing it when he killed the buck though. He was about 20 foot up in his tree stand.

The Amish are excellent craftsmen! Very nice buck with very nice bow! Do you have any sales details about these bows? I guess there is no website?

I did a review on the harvestmaster. It is a real nice bow with very good  workmanship.
