This picture is to me what out hunting is all about. Friends helping friends and fellowship with great people. Without the people around us the sport would not be the same.

My good friend and who we call camp boss Kendall. He is a fellow Pronghorn shooter. This was the second year in a row that I had the chance to video a moose hunt. Last year for my Dad and this year a good friend. He shot this moose at 4 yards. I will try to post the video later.

I am shooting a pronghorn ferret bow, Axis FMJ and Stingers out front. The moose was a preferance point draw. Both him and my Dad took over 30 years to get there moos tags. There will be more story to follow I promise.
I am hoping more critters as well. My Dad still needs his.

So for a little bit of the story. I left work at 8pm on the 12th to drive four and a half hours north to my home town. It was going to be a good year no matter what. I was going to hunt with my Dad and many other friends. One who is enjoying his first year bowhunting. My Dad started him out right with a longbow.
I pulled into town at about 2 in the am. After getting a few things gathered I went to a friends house for a quick nap. Exited about the adventure at had I got no sleep. My friend and I got up at about 4:30 and started the long trip to the mountians. My Dad and a few others had already been in camp a few days so I wanted to get there in time to hunt that morning.
When I arrived in camp they where waiting for me to go on there morning hunt with them. I gathered my gear and we where off. The morning was a little slim we did not see any elk but chased a few birds.
We went to camp got some chow and i listened to the stories of the time i had missed in camp. Two thirty came around and I decided that it was time to go see what I could find. I know a place where I almost always find elk so I thought that I would check there.
The others went to a place that they had seen elk the night before.
As I climbed the ridge in a sleet snow blizard visability was nearly nothing. The caynons I wanted to glass where whited out. As I moved around the hill to get a better view of what little I could see. I spotted a calf up an feeding in the bottom of a draw that cut the ridge I was on.
Knowing that the calf was probly not alone I started to stalk closer. Watching the wind and glassing constanty I eased in.
I could find no sign of the calf or any other elk though. I kept getting closer and closer. Then I saw him bedded 80 yards a great bull.

I moved in close as he got up from his nap. 30 yards quatering away I loosed my arrow and had my bull. with help from som good frinds I got him back to camp and we have been eating good ever since. See there was not much left to tell anyway.
-
Great trophies Ferret!!
-
You the man Randy B.!! Hope to see you in 2 weeks at elk Fest, I can tell you all the stories I dont have!! And tell you about all the elk I havnt been seeing!!

Wow what a great hunt! Congrats all the way around :clapper:
-
You are my hero! What a nice bull and great hunt! It has always been a dream of mine togo on a hunt like you did with your Dad. I always wanted to go on a fishing trip to Canada with my Dad (He was crippled by polio when a child, and it was difficult for him to hunt), but he loved to fish. I guess now I'm the father and if I can do it I want to go elk hunting with my son before it is too late! Thanks for this reminder!
-
Ya know Randy, the fact that I signed your leave form, doesn't that entitle me to a few steaks?
Dan
-
I think that a few steaks can be aranged with no problem.
-
Congrats
Was that on public or private land?
-
All on public land Chris
-
Well now I am back at work. I tell ya its hard to leave good family good friends and great mountains to go back to work.
-
Great stuff! Those are some fantastic animals! Thanks for sharing! ;)
-
:clapper: :clapper: :clapper: Absolutely fantastic
-
Wow!!!!!! Congratulations on all of your spectacular success. I have a couple of WY preference points for elk and this is quite an example!
-
You guys are having a great year
-
Ferret, first off thanks for sharing an awesome experience with us! Was that an OTC tag for the elk? I know a guy here that drew a tag for an area in the Bighorns. Where they were they saw a lot of whitetails...? I have been thinking of giving Wy. a try for elk. If there is any advice you can give me please PM me and lets talk.
-
Beach I hope you get a tag soon. The elk hunting was good for the first part of the month witha big dead spot. It soundsl like that was everywhere though.
-
Nice nice nice. Have you put the video on here :notworthy:
-
Yeah Boy!!!!!! :clapper:
-
I have the video but it is in dvd format. I dont know how to get that on here. If you know how let me know and I will get it posted.
-
Hey Randy, I want to get a copy of that DVD. Just burn one and bring it into work. That Moose shoot is awsome!
-
I think he owes me a steak as well, for helping him shoot better at all the 3D shoots. Actually he shoots pretty good already. Makes me have to hussle to keep up with him.
Good job bud - see you at the next 3D shoot.
-
Getting things lined up to go to Texas again in Dec. for Javelina, deer and turkeys. See ya when we get back.
-
Thanks Gene. I think you mean I have to hussle just to think about keeping up with you when it comes to shooting. : ) I put your name on a package of the best. I will be headed to texas in December as well. Hope to see ya soon.
-
I ASK THAT YOU DO NOT COPY THIS FOR YOURSELF OUT OF RESPECT FOR THE HUNTER IN THE VIDEO. Thanks
The first few seconds is my elk us packing anD stuff then the hunt is right after that. ENJOY

I hope that you all like it sorry that is took so long.

Thanks for adding the video Randy.

-
Very cool How far was the moose? Thank god for traditional archery.
Bill
-
Thanks so much for posting your report, photos and videos. That bull was actually thinking about squeezing through on the hunter's right, just before turning the other way and presenting the shot opportunity. Kudos to the hunter for his cool -- I'd have wanted a testosterone level test on that bull before holding my ground like that! :clapper:
-
Yeah Randy B!! sweet! What happened to you the other day? I wanted to chit chat with you for a while.. Keep me posted if you guys have any 3D shoots up there..
-
Outstanding! Congrats and Thanks for sharing.
-
That shot was 12 feet. If you notice when his eyes are shaded is when he spots the hunter then he turns back out into the sun and looses sight that is when he takes another step forward.
Gives new meaning to hunting with the sun on your back.
Sorry I had to bail Matt. We should go do some shooting. We are having a trad shoot here in December I will keep you posted.
-
AWESOME!!!! Now that's what I call a "close encounter".
-
Where was the moose hunt at?

-
Thanks wyatt Looked like you got yur self a good hog hunting with ray as well.
-
Hey nice video Randy. Who ever the hunter is, that will be a nice way to remember the hunt. Seems that without a video, every year the shot gets longer and tougher. I know some of mine had to be at least 100 yds. by now threaded through a knot hole the size of a golf ball. Ha
I know Dick and Kade would love to see this video and you photos.
Gene
-
Cool!
-
I will keep the video close and pictures too gene. The stories do tend to get a little wild as time goes on. I hope to see you at our trad shoot.
-
That was awesome.....Can't believe he could stay so cool...magnificent video too. My heart was pounding just watching.
Reminds me of my Black Bear hunt. But this is your story.....Thanks so much and video is everything I think.
Great Elk and Muley

Awesome animals and footage. The few times I've hunted Wyoming, it's been good to me. (Not as good as it is to you, but good nonetheless) Very impressive. Thanks for sharing.

I ordered a 3 piece takedown longbow 50# @ 27" 60". Went with a grey actionwood riser and I still have to decide on the limbs. My bow won't be ready till sometime early 2009.
