Title: The Garden Buck
Post by: Jmatt1957 on October 30, 2008, 09:16:00 PM
I shot a ten point out of my ground blind. The best part is that my blind was only about 50 yards behind my house in our garden. We have 6 apple trees that are beside our garden, I kept seeing deer eating apples in the morning when I was leaving for work so I decided to hunt the apples. I set up my blind in the corner of our garden that faces the orchard. I was only seeing deer in the morning so that was the only time I hunted the blind. The first time I hunted the blind I missed a doe at 20 yards (first day of the season). The next 3 times I sat in the blind no shots. Then Sunday morning I got in the blind early about 5;30. I had deer in front of me all morning but before it was legal to shoot.A spike was really looking for love or a fight. He was chasing does all around me also running after a small 6 and a broken racked 8 point. Then at 7;30 a doe walked in front of my blind at about 15 yards I was just getting ready to shoot when she bolted to my right and
behind her was the 10 point. He took 2 quick steps and stopped where the doe had been standing. I only remember picking out a small spot of hair tight behind the shoulder and then the arrow was at that spot. He only ran about 60 yard before dropping. Sorry cant figure out how to get a pic to post. First deer from the ground.

Cool.  I too know the feeling of hunting close to home.  We just bought a new house and I have deer on a trail camera less than 20 yards from where I park my truck.  Here's the kicker; we own less than two acres!  Don't know if I will hunt there, but sure nice having them close.

If you figure out the picture thing, we'd love to see that buck.

I used to hunt some apple trees about 50 yards behind a friends house.  Right next to a giant cornfield and a swamp that was about 100 yards wide and 1000 long.  Deer out the wazoo and he would wave at me in the tree every night when he was doing his dishes.  The neighbor shot a 200 plus inch deer that i had seen a few times.  Granted this was when i lived in michigan i don't think deer get that big here in TN.  The guys name was Donny Bolenger from Chelsea MI.  Congrats on a great buck!!!

Another option would be to replace all the back screens in your house with shoot thru netting.
