First I want to thank John K. for offering me a spot on the farm for the weekend. I had a great time with him and his property is beautiful. Thanks again John,,
The early Michigan rifle season for antlerless deer was last weekend. First time for our state to have a season this early and being bow hunters at heart we wanted some ealry venison with the stick and string. Friday night we seen 8 to 9 bucks between the two of us and some yerlings. John had two adult doe in front of his ground blind but he had to let the nice buck walk by him at about 10 yrds or so and then he couldn't get the shot off at the doe's. Saturday we hung a couple stands made another ground blind and prepared for sunday night. Sunday night braught a slight cold front and it seemed it was going to happen tonight. I sat in another ground blind . John sat in one of his newly placed stands and the stage was set. A yearling doe walked by me at about 8 to ten yards, I just sat frozen like a rock to let her go by, about 25 minutes later I see another deer comming out from the low thicket. She steps on the same trail as the yearling ad I seen it is an adult doe. My heart pumps hard as she makes her way out to the feild edge very slowly on high alert, She is now only 8 to 10 yrds braudside to me and I don't dare move. She steps out into the feild and gives me a quatering away shot, I draw and anchor she pauses I'm buring a hole behind her shoulder with my eyes. I release, I could see the arrow miss my spot but not by much. The Doe whirls and goes right down, I finish her off with another arrow through the heart and she is done and I have some great table fair and boy what a way to start the season off,, Thanks all JB..

WB…great way to go after them during the early “gun” season.
I finally got to do something I've always wanted to do...bow hunt September in Michigan. Granted I had to wear the required orange but I had a blast and I only got to hunt Sunday morning. Met up with another tradganger and had a good morning. He almost connected but the wind was swirling and it just didn’t work out.
I keep hoping they’ll make it where we can hunt starting on September 15th like other states but I guess I’ll have to take what I can get.
Awesome action!

Great job!

Jason,
Great job, really nice doe! I going to have to wait till 10/3 before I can get out this year. It's going to be weird sitting in my ergonomically adjustable desk chair instead of a hard tree-stand seat on opening morning.

Jason was the most grateful person I have ever seen get a deer. He must have thanked me a dozen times. You are welcome my friend, there will be many hunts together to follow.
I know you other guys are impressed with how big this doe is. She is actually quite average for size here. I aged her by her teeth and she is no more than 2 1/2 years old. But, at the same time I do no crop production here on the farm. Only food plots and habitat restoration. My food plots consist of corn, soybeans, some clovers and my Green Fire Mix. Which is a fall deer food plot mix I built and make in my wildlife habitat company. She is actually laying in the Green Fire plot. So, yes she is a big deer, but I think it has a lot to do with nutrition levels and good habitat.
I will add for those of you not in Michigan. This season was an early antlerless only fireams season. We were allowed to hunt with archery equipment, but had to follow firearms rules, hence the hunters orange.
Congratulations Jason, no one is more deserving.
