Way to go,I knew it wouldn't be long. Can't wait for the story & pictures.
-
Ok, Sorry for the long wait....but you know.....the time thing......
I'll keep this short and use a lot of pix as I'm very tired and need to go to bed.Hunting in the morning.Roosted a bird in a great spot, but I'm going to leave it for a hunt with Cade.Hunting another good spot in the morning though.....
On with todays short, before work hunt......
I set up in the dark as I wasn't real sure where the birds would be roosted. I knew they'd be somewhere withing earshot of the field I was set up in......I got lucky! First gobble really jarred me! He was only about 50yds away right on the edge.....
I called to him twice in the tree and soon I heard wingbeats as I scrambled to grab my bow.He hit the ground about 60yds away out in the field with a serious attitude!
He strutted right in to "Floyd"....before I knew my arrow took him perfect from about 6 yds!
He ran right at my blind and came so close I probably could have grabbed him had I been ready to do so. He went about 10 more yds and tipped over!
In this pic you can see the set up and "Billboe" where he died.....
I walked up to this.....
"Floyd" got a little tied up and dirty(in a good way).......
One happy hunter.....
I was tucked in the corner and he was roosted in the tall tree with a lot of leaves furthest to the left of the corner....
Spur's 1 1/8" and 7/8"....
Beard was thin, but 10 " long and he weighed 20# on the nose......
-
Here's what a Vapor 3000,tipped with 300grs. of big snuffer will do with a perfect hit...from my 56" Kempf Kwyk Styk "Cy".......
On the way out, just in front of the off thigh.....
on the way in,just behind the wingbutt....

Cool, way to go! Thanks for the story.

Way to go Curt, Very nice setup. How long is your bow and do you have any issues with it inside the blind? ie. windows too high to shoot out of or the bow being too long and hitting the inside?
-
 :notworthy:

Congrats Curt. Beautiful country you have there.

Thanx fellas :notworthy:
KTJ, My bow is 56" and no I don't have any problem shooting it out of the blind.
No hunt with Cade, he decided to sleep in because his grandma is up from Fl....maybe next Sun.(my only day to hunt). Man did I have a killer set up waiting for him this morning too! I decided not to hunt that bird hoping he's still roosting there next weekend. I have Miss Faith Striker here too,so as time permits this week,I'm gonna work on getting her set up to kill a bird with this coming weekend.....how cool would it be to have Cade there......
-
Curt I'm happy everything worked out for you on this bird, it's a fine turkey
-
Very nice..Tdog
-
The Man!!!!!!!!!...How pretty was that setup. Awesome field with stone fence and heart shot mature gobbler with a big bad snuffer.....Miller Time!. :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
-
Thanx guys....
Joey, I don't think I've killed a bird in a prettier place...I love the stone wall back round too!
Check this out....
After I'd shot my bird and he layed out for a couple minutes, I hear a hen start calling almost directly above me.... a few seconds later she pitches out and lands about 30yds away.......
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_turkeyhunt5-10008.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=turkeyhunt5-10008.flv)
She seemed to be waiting for him...then after a few minutes she lays right down in a submissive posture seemingly trying to lure him over......
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/th_turkeyhunt5-10009.jpg) (http://smg.photobucket.com/albums/v77/Guru39/turkeys/?action=view¤t=turkeyhunt5-10009.flv)
After about a minute she gave up and picked her way out of the field.....
-

No "turkey Guru" here guys, I just work at it harder than most.....I just love watching and figuring them out. I'm still up early before work every morning watching "my" birds in anticipation of this Sundays hunt with Miss Faith Striker, and Cade...first time out for him. Watched two jakes in one spot, a long beard I've seen in the same spot every day for the last week in another part of the same orchard. And two big toms at another spot......so far so good for the big hunt this Sunday!!
