Was stalking another cow moose, in my stocking feet, in a bog, last hour of the last day of the NH moose hunt, when this cow walked between us. A 20 yard shot with my 60# DAS recurve, a 29" Beman 340 with 100 grain brass inserts and a 125 Razorcap took a rib, heart and lungs. She ran 20 yards and fell over like she hit a brick wall. Could say more but I am sooooo tired...killing a moose is not as hard as getting it out of the woods...even close to home. I really love that DAS recurve....best damned hunting bow I have shot in 56 years of doing this.

You guys, if you haven't shot and quarteed and humped out your own moose....well, I am really tired tonight but still so in awe of what happened that I can't shut off my brain. All I can tell you it was stunning, and humbling...I feel very fortunate....and Laura was looking almost right over my shoulder at the whole thing. One of these days I'll tell the story....it started way before moose season. I won't do a Charlie Lamb and keep you on edge....when I do the story I will have to do the whole thing in one sitting....just like I did term papers in college.
-
Bill that's awesome man. Congrats!
Love to shoot a moose someday.
-
Way to go Bill! Nice use of the entire season and getting to experience all the days of the hunt. Good winter eating!

All Right Bill! Nothin better than fresh Moose.

Can't wait to hear the story. Congrats on a fine hunt and a fine animal. Anyone who packs out his own moose is a giant and a human being in my book. Great job.
-
Let me just echo what everyone else has said Bill, a big congrads and I am all smiles just thinking about your success.
Like the Ferret, I dream of shooting a moose someday also. I will for sure need all the help I can find if one goes down.
Looking forward to the story whenever your ready.
Wow, congrads again.

That's awesome Bill!! A NH moose is a dream of mine! David was nice enough to show me a few close up last year. I was just pointing a camera at them and was shaking like a leaf... I can't imagine what it takes to draw on one!

You guys that want to shoot a moose...NH, Maine and VT all h have moose lotteries. If any of you get a permit for NH let me know and I'll do what I can to help out. I would recommend, however, a four wheeler with a winch with plenty of wire or be prepared to hire a logger/farmer with a tractor/skidder to haul it out. I was hunting in one of the southern zones that has fewer moose and moose hauling is not readily available....so we had to resort to knives, saws and grunting. I sat in the whirlpool last nite so I am not as stiff as I thought I would be....but there is always tomorrow.
-
By the way, thank you all for the good words...I am serious abut helping anyone who draws a NH permit. It is fun and actually cheap. You can hire a guide but most successful hunters self guide.

CONGRATULATIONS Bill!!!!!!!!!! :clapper:
-
Thanks for the info Bill, now I have another tag to apply for.
-
Good job Bill. As far as the story, I think you should make us Tradgangers wait and submit it to Traditional Bowhunter. I bet they would be very interested in a Northeast bowhunt story.
-
Bill,
Thats just great!! Ain't life grand!
Bob
-
Awesome Bill!
-
 Congrats.
-
Congrats Bill. Hauling moose is no small job but many fine meals to come. It won't take long to forget about the hard work. Unless you mess up your back doing so and it reminds you every moose season for the rest of your life like mine. Enjoy, moose is my favourite wild table fare.

Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Congratulations.. Rest well.
Perfect shot!!!!!!!!

Laura and I talked about it last nite and I think you guys will have to wait for the whole story. I'm going to submit it to TBM and see what they would like to do with it.

Congratulations, Bill. Gotta love last minute success when it seems that the hunt is over!
