This past week Tom "TP" Parsons and John Tribett flew in from Maryland to hunt with John Hurt and I in South Texas on a Javalina hunt.
Had a blast. Seen tons of javies and RATTLESNAKES. Loads of shot opportunities and some good stories.
Right off the bat, "TP" nailed a 5'6" rattlesnake. (That man is a hellava shot with a longbow, right or left handed)
John Hurt drilled a pretty good rattlesnake also. The rattlesnakes makes me nervous, so I prolly couldn't hit one if I tried. LOL!
I shot a 40# javalina on Saturday. I used a 60", 58# @ 29" Thunder Stick MOAB with a 620 grain CX Heritage and Simmons 2 blade Tiger Shark.
"TP", of course, used a Kimsha Mattawoman II he built.
John Hurt used a BW PLX.
John Tribett used a nice Kimsha 3 piece longbow.
I'm not good at telling stories, so enjoy the pictures. ...Mike

-
Congrats to you all. Especially the Javie kill.
Great pics.
-
Hey there John Hurt. Where is my invite????
-
those are some serious big snakes...
-
I truly envy you guys from the South and West. Big variety of game to hunt and seems all year round.. :clapper:
-
Well,
This past week was one of the best times I've ever had. I feel extremly privelaged to be able to call Lucky Man my friend. He and his family are unbeleiveable. We had an action packed week. We went to the Rhinehart 100 shoot, then hunted close by LM's home for hogs, then traveled down to south Texas for javis. We ate great (manditory when hunting with lucky man), met some great people. The ranch we javi hunted was CRAZY, javis and snakes everwhere, everyone had oppertunities, quote from Raw Hide "its like squirrel hunting, if this stalk does'nt work out just go find another".
I can't wait for next year.
-
jct, I can't wait to get back down there again, also. Them javies will spoil a man. LOL!
jct and LUCKY MAN, let's see some pictures. These are all I got on my camera....Mike

Raw Hide,
I'm still trying to figure out how to post pics, I'll try some more this evening after work.
Ha ha, look at that pic of TP. his fly is open again, hahaaaa!
I'm sure Lucky mans got some good pics but he's probably busy cleaning and organising all his camping gear.
I sure hope he keeps that fine waterproof tent around for next year, I dont think TP would want it any other way he he.
-
Way to go guys,Congratulations!!
thanx for sharing
-
Hogs an snakes, thats hard to beat! Gotta love Texas.
-
:bigsmyl:
-
Oh Man! LOL! I didn't even notice "TP"'s fly was open. Oh well, I'll keep it on here, unless he wants me to take it off here. LOL!!
jct, I think LUCKY MAN has been sleeping, day and night, since we got back.
Thanks Guru.
hunt it, yep hard to beat the action here, especially in South Texas. It'll spoil an East Texas man.....Mike
-
I'm awake boys, been busy getting all the camping gear squared away, truck washed and doing loads of homework I'm behind on.
Absolutely the BEST hunting trip I've ever been on, lots of game, good friends, plenty of beer and some good country cooking.
Plan on doing it again next SPRING BREAK but fly in a day early so we can hang out at the RHINEHART 100 all day and get a jump on the hogs at ALAZAN.
May even have time to drop by the TESTICLE FESTIVAL and have a ball !
I saw TP unzip his fly when he saw that 260# boar in the cooler, I also noticed a bottle of VIAGRA setting by his bed in camp, maybe that's why RAWHIDE was sleeping on the couch ?
I'm tuning up my SIMMONS TREESHARKS as we speak, figure them on a 5/16 ramin shaft weighing in at 650 grains or so will do the job. Will do plenty of practice at 50 yards for next trip. Those javies we hunted ride the long bus !
Will post pictures in a couple days and try to get copies for everyone soon.
Is it MARCH 2008 yet ?
-
JCT, thanks for all the nice comments and the Family enjoyed having you and Tom down for a visit.
Jack, Joe, Chris and George all asking if you guys made it home safely, wanted to know when you were moving down here ?
" South Georgia Redlight " ( WORD )
-
After the past couple days being back home and back to work dealing with the idiots that seem to be taking over up here I'm ready to move down there right now.
Gonna be a long year waiting for March 2008.
"WORD"
-
I'm sure we can find you a nice 1200 sq ft bachelors pad down here for 50K or so, if you want a couple acres we'll probably need to add another 6K or so.
I'll be mailing TP's arrows in the morning along with your fanny pack and rain jacket.
We got lots of pretty girls down here to and hog hunting year round, did I mention NO STATE TAX !
Okay, Okay, I'll quit rubbing it in.
-
I'm still trying to find a good reason not to move down there.
What u recon carpenters wages are down there.
I'm ready for a job where someone else deals with the morons.
Pretty girls is an understatement, down home country girls. Perfect!
Hunting all year, no state tax monkey on my back,
whats not to like.
Already got friends there too!
-
I'll do some recon on carpenters wages, matter of fact I have a friend down the road who's a builder.
Work here for 9 months and head out West for 3 !
Lots of building going on around here so work would not be an issue.
Just think about having javelinas and exotics only 6-7 hours away. Okay, Okay I'll stop.
-
Brain Fart !
-
How I can drill a snake in the head and completely miss a javelina is beyond me ? Maybe if I were scared of the jvaelina I would shoot better.

Is 42# enough for rattlesnakes ? Today it was.

-
Now that there was funny Lucky Man.....
-
Hey there Lucky man. Should have some hogs figured out in a couple weeks. If so we will have to slip over to the secret hole and stob a few. Going over ther in the morning to do a little more scouting..
-
Sounds like a plan Jamie, let me know and we'll get after'em. Always ready to chase pigs.
Wish I could make Vanderpool ? Going to Chester for sure.
-
Simmons TigerShark 135 grains precisely placed by RAWHIDE from a 60# Thunderstick, we did'nt have to look for this one.

Some of the local flora, be careful where you sit !

Dont get much better than this, a South Texas sunset.

Pope and Young mesquite limb, one of many for Lucky Man. Notice the ground and it had rained heavy 2 days before, imagine what it will look like in July.

-
Good stuff, LUCKY MAN. Keep'em coming. LOL!
-
By the way Lucky Man. Guess my invitation got lost in the mail...
-
I have'nt forgotten about you RAWSHAFT, had a full truckload last time down. Will give you a shout next time we go.
The same gang plans on going down next year during Spring Break, I think everyone is hooked on South Texas.
How was you DEERMAN Shoot ? The Rhinehart 100 was a blast and I'll be posting some pictures on a new thread.
-
Didn't make the deerman. Have a wonderfull picture of the sunset on the first day of the rinehart..
-
I'll post some pictures of the Rhinehart 100 in a couple minutes.
-
Congrats Guys, Glad it all worked out for you. :bigsmyl: :notworthy: Excellent Pics.

Boy I tell ya, meeting Jack Holder and Joe Mathews was one of the many highlights of the trip for me. Those two have been friends for a long time and it shows. The Rhinehart 100 shoot was awesome, the targets are unique so you wonder what the next one is gonna be.
Did anyone get any pics. of the girls shooting in front of us? NICE !
Next year we're doing the whole course. I hope the scenery is as nice the next time.
-
Mike that sunset pic is keeper...hey when its important, ya NAILED that rattler , great shot bud! :wavey: ...TP makes some fine bows too...
-
Mark, the sunset picture is of LUCKY MAN and thanks for the nice comments.

Nice pics and a good story guys. I looked in TP's quiver but didn't see any green shafts ?
I'm sure thats gotta be his arrow in the 12 ring :-)
-
Dang JOhn, looks like somebody just plowed that field !!!
Like to see them piggies !!
-
Congratualtions jct, I'll send your PHOTOBUCKET TUTORIAL CERTIFICATE. I just got mine a couple days ago from RAWHIDE.
Sending you a PM with some requested info.
Got invited on a hog hunt a few minutes ago, will be a couple weeks, we're waiting on some warm weather.
-
That's my GREEN ARROW, Thank You very much.
Whoever said (TP) Tom Parsons could shoot was RIGHT.
He told me he taught G.FRED everything he knows.
Crawl out worms, the can is open !!!!!!!!!!
-
Yes Tim it does appear that someone plowed that field, BIG HOGS did.
There was areas a 1/2 acre rooted like that on the place we hunted.
-

Great pictures guys. Keep'em coming. .....Mike
-
Tim, if we kill one, RAWHIDE is a strong buck and I'm sure he would help us out in trade for some backstraps, sausage, poke chops ect.
-
Tim, this is part of the hunt package when you come visit, all you want and plenty of cold beer to wash it down.
Can you say GUMBO !

-
RAWHIDE showing out again !
-
Looks like ya'll gonna have to pay rawhide to let ya'll take pics holding his javies....
-
That Gumbo is GOOOOOOD eats buddy.
I think TP could've scored with that girl at the liberty if he was willing to go over to the
Red Horse and give up his hat.
I've got to get one of those hats, he had a HOT stewardess on the plane wantin that hat too!
Man when your old you can get away with alot with the girls. "They think your harmless" Jack Holder
-
Jack Holder is a sho nuff EAST TEXAS STUD !
I'm kinda looking forward to reaching 80 after seeing him in action at Tyler. That dude is a CHICK MAGNET.
We'll have to check out the RED HORSE next trip, figure we can sleep in til 1200 and still chase javelinas til dark. New tactics will be employed next trip to include grenades, claymores, rockets, missles, bombs, deadfalls, snares, pungi sticks and night vision googles.
Will be embarrising to go to South Texas for the 3rd time and not kill a javelina, maybe if I ate less and drink more I would have different results.
-
Goes to show u what everybody else is missing, how many other "hunters" who use other types of gear to hunt with can go on a hunt twice without gett'n some'm and still consider it the best hunt ever.
I do agree with the eat less drink more theory though.
-
No need for the grenades, claymores, rockets, missles, bombs, deadfalls, snares, pungi sticks and night vision goggles, just bring some of those Simmons Tree Sharks, better than all that other stuff.
BUT ! you gotta hit um.
-
TRUE STATEMENT !
Since you can only kill 2 per season, the killing is actually counterproductive. If I had killed 2 already then I would have to waite longer to go back.
I may take a rope next time and hog tie them, tag them and release for RAWHIDE to shoot.
I would like to put a kevlar vest on one and watch RAWHIDE's reaction when his arrow bounces off.
Will be taking video camera next time to get some of this action on live footage, may have to bleep some of it out or only show on late night TV.
Did you see that ....... shot ? This stuff is so ....... thick, can you pull that thorn out of my ....
-
LOL!! Good stuff! :scared:
-
If i ever go again i'm gonna take those big ole snuffers. 160's with a 45grain adaptor in'em. oughta knock a hole , huh?
-
The snuffers worked for RAWHIDE.
We're going to have to tighten up a bit, RAWHIDE is making us look bad.
That boy is a killing machine, EAST Texas, SOUTH Texas and has his mind on those big Maryland whitetails.
-
Rawhide ain't allowed up here no more, I'm sceered the deer population ca'nt handle him.
If he comes up here with u Luckyman he's gotta play camp b**ch, no hunt'n.
-
Good role for him, here he's great!!!!
-
Good one jct ! At least we won't take him to the Honey Hole that Frank and Jesse know so well.
We'll drop him off at about 4AM on Pennsylvania Ave, he'll never come to Maryland again.
-
LOL!! :biglaugh:
-
He might stay up there and run all them people South...
-
I've already been run south rawshaft, we got some good whitetail hunt'n and Sika deer hunt'n but the people up here SUCK!
I'm outta here!
-
Come on down and stay awhile, plenty of good huntin and fishing, pretty girls and folks are down home friendly.
Javelina hunting aint half bad either and I know of a honey hole about 7 hours South of here.
Sending you a PM later this evening.
-
Lucky Man, That Gumbo looks sure 'nough good to me !!
Now if I can get this house sold I might can make it down there and try it. Are you coming back this way this year ?
-
Sure would like to make a trip in November, will have to waite and see what's going on
Whenever you come down I'll be sure and have some gumbo on the stove.
-

Nice talking to you last night Johnny and will give you a shout when I head North.
