...is that there are loads of people who prowl the dark corners of the internet to find others who share their unusual passion.
They plot and plan ways to meet in out of the way places...say like the swamps and pine forests of South Carolina
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/beachbowhunter/DSCN2140.jpg)
That's not the worst part.....
-
The worst part is they often look like this. :scared:
-
SCARY!!! That picture needs to be kept from small children :-)
-
They obsess about their equipment, get very little sleep and sneek around trying to kill tasty animals. They're not always successful but seem to enjoy themselves....
There are always animals and plants that are new to them, especially if they're from the west and have never seen a fox squirrel, for example...
-
Sometimes they do get lucky...
...and sometimes they could use a little more luck
(http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v306/beachbowhunter/DSCN2154.jpg)
-
...but on balance, they're a pretty nice bunch of folks.
Thanks Ray, I had a blast in your secret hog hideaway. Bob, as always it's a blast to hunt with ya!

Great pics Norb! Looks like a good time was had by all.
-
Do I hear "Dueling Banjos" in the background???
-
That swamp looks scary! But can you think what is going through the minds of the critters when they see this crew moving through their woods??? They say ,it don't take much to amuse a stick shooter. Guess that's why we do it.
-
Looks like a good time to me.
-
i would be :scared: to if i saw that lot in the woods.i guess i wont have to worry about bears when i come over this year to hunt!!!!!!! bob just needs to walk ahead of me LOL!!!!! :biglaugh:

I guess I should be thankful they didn't get a good look at me before they came, or they might not have shown up, know what I mean???
Iron Bull, no one cooked this trip. We took a direct hit on the top of the camp house, so the ceilings were all messed up. We opted to eat out so it was just run of the mill stuff I'm sorry to say!
We made up for it with fun and laughs, though. And got to listen to stories of a jaguar hunt with a recurve in the Mato Grosso de sul, of Brazil, which was very cool, and drank Amarulo, a fruit-based liqueur made from what elephants love to get drunk off of when they ripen and ferment on the tree.
-
Good looking buncha guys. Except that smaller guy. He kinda looks like one a them surfer dudes from the west coast. Nice smack-down on the bunny there Norb! I'd have like to been in that camp! Did Norbert have to make a quict thip to the Hospital to get this trip started off with a stich? :saywhat: :goldtooth: CK
-
Glad to say it all went off without a stitch ....er hitch. Bluegrass, that's my TimerGhost bow you were asking about made by Kent Roberts of RidgeRunner Bows. A few Tradgangers have them on order right now. That rabbit is the first game ever taken with his new longbow limbs. LeRoy, ask Bob W. what he thought about the 54" recurve limbs :saywhat:
Tippit, seems like I keep following you along the trail. We need to meet up one of these days. Bosox fans gotta stick together you know! I grew up in Pawtucket, RI going to Pawsox games.
Ray's place has tons of hogs. Sign was everywhere and we saw several. Drought conditions were keeping them from active rooting and the dry blackberry vines  didn't help sneaking.
-
Norb, nice bow ...ya gone mount that rabbit!!! :bigsmyl: :D :wavey: ...couple more and ya got the making of good rabbit stew for sure!
-
The guy in the middle of the first picture. I think I've seen before somewhere. Must of been in the post office! Then again it may have been on the wrong side of the border.
Mugg shots!
Brent :jumper:
-
Great thread and I love the looks of that timberghost with the longbow limbs...kind of reminds me of a Death Adder with more sculpted lines...
-
I was thinkin I had seen all three of them fellers on Milk Cartons :scared:
-
Vance, Milk Cartons...them fellars might be lost but Not kids :knothead:
HO'NEHE JEFF, Don't worry about the bears. Bob should have that out of his system by the 4th of July...Doc
-
Oh my! I have become the type of man that my Mother warned me about associating with.
-
Great read Norbert! What was that little furry critter you called a fox squirrel? I saw an animal like that down in Mississippi a couple years ago and didn't know what the heck it was. Doesn't look like what we call fox squirrels up here in the north!
-
Gotta get the real scoop from Ray. He's quite the naturalist. We spotted a small black animal and I thought it was a mink or weasle. Ray told me it was a fox squirrel. They have a hunting season but this was not it. I stalked up to 10 feet and took some pics. It's a pretty darned big squirrel. The females are grey bodied with black highlights on the head. We saw a bunch of armadillos and could have shot em easily. So easy I couldn't convince myself it was the right thing to do. Ray said we could and probably should shoot them because they eat lots of quail eggs and they hunt this property for quail too.
-
Whip, sometimes the guys around here call them cat squirrels because they are as big as a small house cat.
They come in all variety of colors: That one was the most striking I have ever seen- all black, except the socks, face mask, and tail tip were white.
They come with tan bodies, and the extremities black sometimes, and other times they are the color of a silverback grizzly with black tips, and I've even seen an all white one - not an albino, just a white one, with black feet, tail tip and face mask.
They are really something to watch..and they act much differently than regular gray squirrels.
-
these two guys were a blast..I hope they come back again. We've had the feeders off for 8 weeks due to turkey season and it showed. the p-i-g hawgs are scattered all over the place - we are turning them back on this week so things should get back to normal again soon.
-
That has to be what I saw! We were in a van full of people and I saw it run across a lawn. Nobody else saw it, and I described it as a giant squirrel with a raccoon face. Thought there was some animals with love interests in other species going on down there or something. Nobody else in the van believed that I saw anything - I don't get that?
-
Hey Norb, I leave for a day and you post a pic of my ugly, evil twin, LOL! It was a pleasure to share a hunt with you again, even though you cost me another $350. by letting me shoot those 54" limbs, but as you know it was well worth it!
Gents, I had a great time, as good as I've ever had on a hunt. That was one of the most awsome cypress swamps that I've ever had the pleasure of walking through, abundant with wildlife and full of nature's beauty.
Ray, thank you for having us down, my friend. You are a gracious host and I sincerely hope I have the opportunity to share camp with you again.
-
Oh, I almost forgot, Wolfman Jeff, you don't have to worry about any bears when you come, cause the snakes done et em all. In fact, look what Ron and I found when we set the blind that you'll be hunting out of when you get here.......
So you may want to go ahead and buy those snake boots after all, LOL!!!!!
-
On Second Thought You better get a Snake Tent. :readit: :saywhat: :biglaugh:
-
Bob, what the "bleep" is that??????????
-
STEAK.....Tastes like CHICKEN :biglaugh:
-
Do you guys use turbo-fletched arrows that gain speed down range? In the Ozarks, they call bowhunters like that tick bait? Hope you are having as much fun as it looks. Every road trip should have a photo album scrapbook and gifts for the ladies when you get home. Luck.
-
thank god!!! i am glad you showed me one of your snakes why they are just wussies!!!!!! down under they have real snakes i feel most relieved. thank goodness i am meeting you in new zealand. and not in the states ron you had better give me a shot gun when i come over LOL!!!! :biglaugh: :biglaugh: why you fellars aint right in the head. LOL!!! oh by the way bob can you skin that for my bow? crap thats a big mother after seeing that i am tree stand hunting.
-
Looks like a lot of in-breeding going on according to the picture. Of course, I'm talking about the squirrel. Looks like you had a great adventure.
-
Aaaah... South Carolina, Ray Hammond, Keith Jarrett's music in the truck while cruising for hogzzz,..............................................can't forget the pygmy rattlers & alligators :notworthy: :clapper:
-
Nice thread Norb.
Why is it you seem to have all the nicest looking bows?
Bob has gotten scary looking since I last saw him. I can't believe I got into a car with that guy.
Looks like you guys had a good time.

Well, I used to be that way with girls but now that I'm happily married I gotta be playing the field somehow!
-
Dang ya'll, with a little help from his friends, a feller could prolly get a complex if he tried real hard, LOL! Can I help it if the vehicles I rent just happen to veer right in the direction of the Border Patrol checkpoints, or in some cases, around them????
Whip - Ron loved it! His fingernails weren't near as deep in the upholstry as StephenR's was on the last trip. Least we didn't have any "cool ones" with us, just a cooler full of the M.T. containers sitting in the back seat. It sure comes in handy being on a first name basis with El Federally sometimes. Come to think of it, Ron did direct me into a U turn pretty quickly to get us back across the border.
Chris - Scarey? What u mean, scarey?? Well, in retrospect, maybe that's why Cosmic Ray made me ride in the back of his Snoop de Ville when we went into town, you think? And them hogs did seem to let out screams rather than squeels when I walked up on them, LOL!
I'll be back later and hopefully my reputation won't take any more direct hits in the meantime!!!
-
sounds like you guys are up to no good. mmmmmmmm :biglaugh:
-
We were just Collecting Cans, wasnt a problem LOL. The Federally did take a hankering to try and keep us in Mehico... LOL
-
Aw That's Just Great...we've got to cross another border with Bob in the truck in about a month. This time north of the border for Quebec Blackies!
JC, We might just have to tie him up & say we're bounty hunters bringin him home :biglaugh:
Doc
-
Norb,
Is it all those scars on your hands that helped you win over the ladies?
Bob,
Don't worry, a good shave and a few days of decompression in that hyperbaric oxygen chamber and you'll be back to your old form!
I'm just jeolous of all the good hunting you guys have been getting into lately.
Chris
-
Norb, I'm really tempted to ask if you had to pay as much for your girlfriends as you did for your bows. But that would be wrong, so I won't ask :smileystooges:
-
One thing fo sure, won't be no PROBLEMS findin "A" Border with Walker in da car :biglaugh:
-
Doc, I ain't makin no jokes around no border crossin....that last "search" was plenty for a lifetime.
Great story guys, sorry we couldn't hook up.
-
:goldtooth:
-
I'm going on that trip for Quebec blackies-Doc, you shoulda warned me! Wasn't I nice to you on that trip last year?! :biglaugh:
-
JC, sorry we missed ya. I did get to see where your office is...right next to that nice restaurant that Ray took me to on Thurday night!
-
We waved as we parked the truck in the parking lot, JC. Remember, I called to see what you were doing and you said "got a ball game" so I didn't pursue further.
sorry about that. But it was almost 8pm when we got there from the train station, too..not sure you would have hung out that long to see Beachie or not. I mean, after all, he's from KALIFORNIA!!!! :scared:  :p
