Very, very nice..... I've been waiting to see how you're doing..... Congrats!
...... keep the details coming.....
Curt question for you.... This year is the first year I am using a jake decoy with my hen... Yesterday @ 10:00 am. I had a jake come from the woods to a small clearing where I was set up. When he got to the edge of the woods 25 yards away he saw the jake, turned and snuck away....
I know the set up was good because @ 8:10 I had a hen come in to 8 yards, stand and cluck with the decoys....
Was he scared to get his butt kicked? Have you seen this reaction often? Your thoughts.....
-
Way to go Curt! :notworthy: :notworthy:

Way to go Curt,The set up looks great not much of a turkey hunter but would like to take one with a bow someday...ED
-
I was being serenaded while I was setting the blind and while setting the dekes, with bino's I could see some birds silhouetted against the full moon.
I had a guy I work with in the blind with me.He's never turkey hunted and has been with me the first 3 days.Needless to say,he's hooked!!
As it got close to about the time I figured they would fly down,I got off my stool to look at the birds in the distance with my Leica's.Just as I got them in view, they pitched and sailed right toward the dekes. I made a mad scramble back to my stool just as the birds landed about 40 yds away. The lead bird immediately started to strutt right at "Floyd"........
-
Nice bird Curt....couple of days late though arent ya?-Just kidding....great job!

Got my bow out of the holder and prepared for the shot I knew was coming.....He was walking slow, taking his time strutting up the hill. At about 14yds he stopped and stood stone still, very slighty quartering toward me. I planned on letting him come the extra few yrds closer to get right to Floyd. But with him standing so still,it was a great time to shoot.
I remember picking a highlight on his feathers and letting the string slip.....
-
You're not going to bed now are ya?????????
Congratulations on a great bird Curt! :readit:

........Curt........Awesome......Excellent>>>>
-
Thank you for the kind words guys, and my sincere apologies for taking so long...it wasn't my intention......
Charles, Heck yeah bud....those are my favorites!!! I luv'um ;)
OK,where was I......The string slipped and the big snuffer put it to 'um. The hit looked great and he raced of for about 30yds and slowed and started to flop around. He did this for about 10 seconds,I figured he was done right there. Then he suddenly launched him self off the ground and took off flying. Boy was he peeling line!!!
Because of the trees in the way I lost site of him as the string peeled faster than I thought possible. I held the bow tight, but after 10 seconds or so,it stopped.
We waited an hour,I pobably would have waited longer, but I had to get to work by 7:00. It was kind of weird tracking while looking up in the trees, but that's where the string was. After 50yrds I saw my arrow 20ft up in the branches, and I could see a double string continuing on. The arrow had fallen out the far side. I continued to track as slowly and quietly as possible and after 30 yrs or so further I could see it was starting to come down. Then a little further it started to dive down at a sharp angle as the two strings got closer together and tightened. I was doing more tracking with my binos than with the naked eye. I wanted to be sure he was dead.
I eventually followed the two string to the ground in a thick clump of briar's,and with my bino's saw some tail feathers. I was relived, but was still unsure if he was dead.I snuck in as close as I dared, nocked an arrow, and threw some sticks at him....he didn't move ....I had him!!!
He had obviously died quickly, as he was very stiff as I pulled him out of the thicket.....
The entrance was a little futher back than optimal,it had nicked liver and exited thru the insetine's.....
He was a 2 yr old with 3/4" spurs,a 8 1/2" beard,and weighed about 18#'s.......
The string tracker made what would have been a tough recovery, pretty easy......

-
He must still be gatherin up the used string :p
-
Nice way to christen the bow Curt....
-
Doesn't get much better than that. Congrats Curt
String trackers are really handy when it comes to turkeys (and black bears)
Couldn't see how you mounted it on this bow, did you make a little bracket?
-
Thanx Joe
Mickey, thanx bud...no the little bracket was for the Sheepeater(and I did make one). This one is attached as per my article in TBM.... Screwed into the quiver head....

Go Get em Curt! Good Luck and Congrats on the first one!
-
Great job Curt, now go get the next one.
David
-
Thats a great story Curt...I was laughing pretty hard imagining that string tracker line rippin off the "spool". Thats worth using one for that reason only. Must have been a good rush. I was supposed to be using one this year but I procrastinated too long...next year I will be using one (scouts honor)! Congrats Bro. Now you move on to huntin one particular Gobbler...thats gotta be the best right there. Yeah I'm a little jealous...not really able to do that around here. :notworthy: :clapper:
-
congrats on the bird, great story.
-
Great Stuff !!!
-
Great job getting a bird, and for showing someone else the right way to do it.
Anyone ever notice that sometimes when you include someone else in a hunt such as that one, that extra special things happen?
-
Nice bird, story and pics. You ought to think about a bowfishing reel and rod type deal so you can play 'em. Don't horse 'em, keep your rod tip up!!! heheheheeee
-
Guru , you da man!!! AGAIN !!!!! CONGRATS BUDDY!.................LOVE thaat new bow!! marco#78
-
Thanx so much fellas...but I wasn't "da man" today :(
Blew close shots at two different gobblers this morning.....both worked in perfect to the decoys, and of all things, my shooting let me down.
Not feeling to good right now.......
-
Awesome story! I really enjoyed the article about the string tracker this minth. I don't us a bow mounted quiver, any insight as to how I could mount one on my 3 pc. takedown longbow?
I guess maybe from the upper limb bolt some how?
-
3 Rivers sells a "gadget adapter". It's held on w/ rubber straps.
Larry
-
No worries, Curt. Notice I didn't mention the one I shaved some breast feathers off the day before at 5 yds and then missed a hurried 2nd shot. Oops! Guess I did. :)
-
Curt, stuff happens..... I'm sure the next bird in to your set up is in serious trouble!
Best luck,
-
Guru,
Did the same thing this morning.First time ever turkey hunting and blew a 12 yrd.shot.Thing was so close all I had to do was draw the bow and let the arrow fly.Only been hunting with the bow for 27 yrs.so I can see why I messed up.
-
Curt,
Thanks for making the rest of us feel a little better. Count me in the group that missed a turkey this year.
Chris
-
Oh crap someone had hijacked Curt's account. Terry we need to ban this guy quick. Noway this is Curt because he don't miss. :knothead:
I hate when that happens Bro. Happens to all of us but that don't make it suck any less. I'm sure you'll redeem yourself soon enough.
-
Curt,
You are still the man!
-
Still da man Curt, still da man!
Now it's just easier to like you even more.LOL.
Good luck down the road Bud.
-
Razor, Get a hold of Mickey...He's got a cool, and very simple way to set up a tracker without a bow quiver.
Thanx for the encouragement fellas.....
I just hate working so hard, and having everything work out perfect, and then I fail to make a good shot. I guarantee the next one will pay dearly!!
Heading out now for a quick hunt before work.....
-
Good work!!! :notworthy:
-
Good luck this morning....
-
Will do, thanks.
-
Hey Buddy, how was that hunt before work this morning? :bigsmyl:

-
Ya Man! He's back on boys and girls!
-
Congrats,
I guess I haven't visited enough lately, I'm having to read about gobbler 1 and 2 at the same time. I'm trying to remember why I've been so busy? Oh yeah, it's turkey season and I'm trying to stay employeed also. :) Nice Bird
