Hey folks. I'm pretty new here and not even sure if this story goes under this forum...but here it is.
I got a last minute invite to go to Hunt n Shoot ranch in Chester, TX last week. I grabbed my new Hoyt Dorado recurve and a quiver full of arrows and we hit the road for a day of spot n stalk hog hunting. After a few failed stalks and a good BBQ lunch, we tried a different pasture. Within a few minutes we spotted some BIG PIGS and started maneuvering around for a shot. My buddy Curt was able to get upwind of them and get them nervous. The plan worked out perfectly when they started heading my way. I was hidden by a big brush pile and had the wind in my face. A big boar cleared the brush pile at about 17-18 yards and I went into autopilot mode.
I don't remember much of the shot except seeing the yellow and white feathers burying up into the hog's sweet spot after a great looking quartering away shot. I heard him crashing and running through the woods and then all was quiet.
We found him after a nice 50-60 yard bloodtrail. I've had a lot of success with my compound over the last 5 years or so but none of it came close to shooting this 200 lb. boar with a recurve! I can officially say I'm hooked and that I'll be choosing my future deer hunting setups with the recurve in mind!
Equipment:
Hoyt Dorado with 50 lb. limbs
Custom DAS string from David Sosa
Carbon Express Heritage 150s with 50 gr. inserts and 2 blade Magnus broadheads
Let me try to post some pics.

nice hog, good shot to

Extremely interesting (but not surprising to me)the penetration with the relatively light draw bow & by Trad standards, lightweight arrows.
pretty much what I use except I use 4560/250 CX shafts and most of my bows are a couple pounds heavier at my draw length...
-
Great shot and nice pig!
