Title: ALERT WHA so far and where we need to go ALERT
Post by: vermonster13 on June 17, 2006, 10:34:00 PM
Here is a list of those who have come out against the WHA one way or another.

Pope & young
Safari Club International
Boone & Crockett
NFAA
USSA
NSSF
NRA
Cabelas
Bass Pro Shops
Matthews
ROSS
Newberry
Merlin USA
Martin Archery
Eastman Outfitters
G5 Outdoors
Xtreme Scents
Muzzy
Pinwheel Products
Outdoors Life
New York Post
Detroit Free Press
and a few I've missed

Looks like a pretty good list, not really. Even with all the noise being made over this to many companies are unaware or taking a wait and see attitude.

Now for some frightening facts. The CEO of the WHA has hundreds of millions of dollars in property in Michigan. The DNR, AG Dept and MVMA don't have official positions on this kind of "hunt" and are waiting for the Atty Generals office to clear up the legality for them. The Governor of Michigan has served on many committees with the WHA chairman. A prominent Michigan politician worked for him. He could be the next mayor of Detroit if decided to run or Congressman or Senator according to publications in Michigan. He is popular in Michigan urban centers where hunting isn't much of the populaces lives and many voters reside. It is an election year for the governor. He has made many contributions to political campaigns in Michigan and other states. They have a whole law office in their employ.

We need the big organiztions who have made statements to do more. We aren't going to stop this with just hunting sponsors walking away. Hunters aren't the target market and they want non-traditional sponsors, this is being aimed to draw in the urban yuppie who is bored with golf.

WE NEED LEGAL ACTION AND INJUNCTIONS STARTED BY SOME OF THESE GROUPS WHO HAVE BEEN COLLECTING OUR CONTRIBUTIONS AND DUES FOR YEARS. WE NEED THEM TO STEP IN OR I FEAR THIS IS GOING TO HAPPEN. THE MORE I LEARN THE MORE NERVOUS I BECOME AND MANY WHO SHOULD BE OUR ALLIES AREN"T TAKING THIS SERIOUS ENOUGH!!!!!

We need members of these organizations to start jumping on the leadership to get some opposition going. All of you guys have been great but there is only so much we can do.

can I count on you guys in this?

I have contacted the NRA, NRA-ILA and NAHC and asked that they come out publicly against this and bring legal action to help stop it both at a national level and state level. I am a life member of both organizations. Guess we will see if my dues are worth anything.

I will do anything I can to halt this misadventure. The NRA for sure needs to step up and start legal action.

You can add Women Hunters, Inc. to the list.  As a Board member and VP of Communications for them, I've obtained concensus to send them a formal letter of non-support.  Further, that correspondence (with appropriate revisions) will also go to any sponsors.
I talked to the folks at Thompson Center and both Larry W. and Greg Ritz are in Africa right now.  Larry's assistant will get them the info, however.

Here is the letter from Women Hunters, Inc.

Mr. Farbam:

The Board and leadership of Women Hunters, Inc. have recently become aware of your new organization called World Hunt.  Unfortunately, having spent some time researching your program platform, we have decided to send you a letter of non-support.

As an organization devoted to promoting our hunting heritage with women and their families, we can not endorse any program that verbally espouses the virtues of hunting while then endangering the lives of wildlife through tranquilization for the purposes of human entertainment.  Further, we believe that the false image of hunters and the hunt that such a program will covey to the non-hunting public is not only irresponsible, but in our view, unethical.

Please be advised that this correspondence will be further duplicated to any of the would-be sponsors of World Hunt in an effort to encourage them to reconsider any business alignment with your organization while your current stated objectives remain in place.

Sincerely,

Claudia A. Eisenmann
Vice President of Communications
Women Hunters, Inc.

Everyone needs to read this and get involved to the best of their abilities. This is one we could lose if we don't get some of the big folks moving on it.

You can add the Montana Bowhunters Association to the list. I would suggest that everyone contact their own state organizations about doing the same. Don

Why isn't NAHC on that list yet??

I agree Vermonster, there has got to be BIG action taken by the big guns... WE will have to contact everyone we can....every Michigan hunter that is against this needs to contact there representatives...ASAP.

If any members of the Michigan Bow Hunters here could get the group to contact the Michigan States Atty Office with concerns about this event, it would be greatly appreciated. My not being a resident seems to effect how much weight they give my e-mails and such.

I had sent the letter bellow to mossy oak a couple of weeks ago. I just received their answer (in bold bellow.) If they just came out they need to be congratulated on it.
Thanks all,
Aram

I have a quick question regarding Mossy Oak's stance towards the World
Hunt Association. I have not heard MO decrying this abomination publicly
and I have even heard (though not officialy) that MO might even support
WHA in their shameful enterprise. I will not bore you with a lecture on
what I think huntig is or is not, I believe I have made my position
clear. Please let me know what yours is.
Be assured that I will share your response, or lack thereof, with anyone
who will listen. Also be assured that should you chose to support the
WHA I will not only stop buying your products but will also stop wearing
any and all products I own that carry your logo.
Thank you for your attention,
Aram Oarcea

IDHA Indiana Deer Hunter's Association Statement:
Quote
"The Indiana Deer Hunters Association is against any shooting of deer behind a high fence that is not "Fair Chase". Military installations, National Wildlife Refuges as well as some ranches do offer "Fair Chase" opportunities. We also are against any drugging of an animal short of medical treatment or scientific study."

No deer or other animal enclosed within a high fence should be considered as fair chase IMHO. If the animal can't get over, under, around or through the fence with relative ease, then it is NOT fair chase.
That being said, I am glad that the IDHA has taken the stance against WHA.

No they aren't busted. It isn't Mossy Oak that put that there. You need to follow the links and really look at what is there. This is more trickery by the WHA crew to try to appear accepted. If anything, a few companies look like they could be bringing some copyright infringement lawsuits if they so desired.

Yeah, but I bet they won't. Again, I think this is a bunch of them that are playing both sides of this fence. If it turns out great, they'll be connected. If not, they can say "we said we didn't support it". All of them are lying in my humble opinion, simply because they are allowing even a tenuous connection between their companies and this farce.

To those companies that are allowing this connection: Put yer money where your mouth is boys, have yer legal depts send cease and desist letters or you are no better than the supporters.

Here is MO's response.

Thanks for pointing that out. MySpace is a crazy phenomenon. It’s difficult to patrol the use of our mark on the internet. It’s easy to pull images and use them wherever. We’re investigating if anything can be done about this, but it’s someone’s personal page. I don’t know if there is a way to remove our mark from this. Our only option is to probably ask the person to remove, knowing it may not be done. It’s so unbelievably easy to misrepresent yourself on MySpace.

Just know that we do not and will not support WHA in any way. Thanks.

Add the United Bowhunters of Illinois to the growing number of organizations opposed to the World Hunt Association.  Our letter of disapproval on this topic was sent to Farbman today.
