what are the 16 states that you need a bowhunter ed course for or which are the ones ya dont?
-
Most are going to require a Hunter's Safety Course Jeff. Some require the Bow Hunter one also such as Vermont, Connecticut, Wisconsin, Florida, Colorado, New Jersey, Maine etc. Some states have a born before date that doesn't require one but you need to check each state for their regulations.
Where do you plan on hunting?
-
well it wont be for about 3 years so i thought i would find out about it first instead of just comming over and not realy knowing any thing about it i plan on hunting where they dont need a hunter safty or bow hunter course. how do i find the ones that have a born before date and dont need the courses? thanks dave

There is talk of mandatory bow courses in Iowa. From what I've seen so far I am not very confident in it. There seems to be influences involved that are not favorable for traditional archery to have much input.

Anyone tweleve years old or older who wishes to bowhunt in Montana must take the Bowhunter Education Course. Or if they have proof of an archery license in another state, that is acceptable.

There are quite a few states that allow you to take it online Jeff and then you just attend a field day when you get here.
You'll need to check each states F&G page to get particulars on licensing requirements.

Here's a list that's a year or so old,only lists 14 states,I've heard 16 lately tho....
Bowhunting certification is not mandatory in Florida to purchase a license, however, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) volunteer instructors provide this course as an additional service to those who plan to bowhunt in a state that requires the additional certification, as well as those hunters who want to learn more about safe bowhunting. The 14 states that require NBEF Bowhunting Certification are Alaska, Connecticut, Idaho, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Rhode Island, South Dakota and Vermont. It is also required in the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Quebec

But he Jeff doesn't have a General Hunter's Safety Certification either and most states require that to purchase a hunting license of any kind.
-
ak has one in archery only areas, it is not trad friendly imho, the shooting test requires shots almost ten yards further than i would take and most anyone here, but you gotta do it.
-
New Jersey has a seperate archery course that is required to purchase a bow license.
-
can anyone name the states that have a born before date as i am wanting to find out more  about those. thank you
-
I know Missouri is born before 1967 and I think Colorado is 1949. I don't know about any others.
-
thank you dnovo i will look into those.
-
Jeff,
Kansas requires Hunter Education if born after 1 July 1957 (you should be OK) Bowhunter Education is NOT required to purchase a Big Game Archery Permit.
Hope this helps
