Title: Rose City Archery - Bail out?
Post by: mqqse on October 02, 2008, 02:28:00 PM
Anyone catch the scoop on this today?  I heard them talking about it on the radio with some connection to the bail out legislation this morning but didn't catch the whole story.

I think what they ar talking about is the senate vot on the bailout bill last night.  Many sweeterns were added to the bill to help secure votes one and it seems one of the more contervesal ones that was pushed by rose city archery was to elimante the fedral excise tax on kids wooden arrows.  Schools, clubs and the scouts, ect. have to pay this tax on kids arrows makeing the wich cost 30 cents to make have an additional 43 cents in tax added.  So this bill got rid of the tax.

From cnbc.com

Among all the sweeteners added to the $700 billion financial bailout bill passed by the Senate, none has attracted more attention than a tax break for wooden archery arrows used by kids.

The exemption would eliminate a 43-cent excise tax on the
arrows, which probably raises less than $200,000 a year for Uncle Sam. But the tax, which is more than the cost of the arrows themselves, has severely undercut archery programs for youths around the country.
