Title: Would anybody else in Wyoming like to see a late season?
Post by: myshootinstinks on October 17, 2008, 10:23:00 PM
As bowhunters we have the month of Septmber....that's pretty much it.  Colorado to the south has seasons on the eastern plains through the end of December. Nebraska to the east has seasons from Sept-Dec, minus a couple weeks for rifle season.
  I'd like to see a late Nov through early January season.  If you are thinking the same way write;

You might also try working with your state bowhunting organization on this.  Generally the more voices you can lend to it, the better.  Also it's better to do it in person.  It's too easy to ignore emails and the like.

Good luck.

Our G & F is hard headed. I've asked them in the past about lenthening our deer seasons. They say we would kill all the big bucks because they are rutting and vulnerable.

There are also several areas in the state where the gun season doesn't open until Oct. 15. We are not allowed to hunt the two weeks prior to that. They say the deer need a "rest". Give me a break, there are other gun seasons that open the day after archery season closes. How come these deer don't get a "rest"?

Join BOW, we need more folks involved that care. There are thousands of archery permits sold every year, but our club membership is only in the hundreds.

I would like to see it but the only group that can effect it is B.O.W. Of course, you can hunt during the gun season...

Yes BOW is the organization to get er dun.  BUT, my experience with G&F and archery issues is that G&F is very reluctant ot give us more season, archery only licenses, and hunting time in general.. There is a general feeling among the gun hnters that we are already getting an unfair hunt advantage.. I have been in on a few discussions with the current pres of BOW on this very subject..

There's no valid reason not to have a late season. A late season would, for the most part, have participation from residents only and there aren't many of us. Beside that, G&F can never seem to get elk reduced to target numbers anyway.  I can't see how it would hurt a thing.

I guide in WY and I promise you that there would be plenty of interest from outfitters (read that as NR).  WY has great deer because they don't get hunted in the rut for the most part.  I hope they keep it that way.

I can hunt whitetails into December around Buffalo/Sheridan. Come up and enjoy some fun late season hunting.
