1) Casino
2) Alcohol Bar
3) Bowhunting
4) Carrying 1/2oz of pot
5) Strip Club
Unfortunately, this isn't a joke. In CT, we can do all of the above on Sunday (or any other day), except for bowhunting. :banghead: Maybe next year.

good thing i dont live there! i dont think i could abide by that stupid law,.. :nono:
-
Virginia is the same. No hunting on Sundays.
-
I don't understand those laws. I've heard the justification of "a day off for game", "a day in the woods for non-hunters", "you should be in church". What is the reasoning behind these laws and why are they so difficult to change?
All I can say is I'm glad Minnesota isn't that way...
-
thats nuts man you can carry drugs around but you carnt go bowhunting
-
I think for the old east coast states that were British colonies, it's the vestigial remains of the Sunday "Blue Laws." Not sure whether you can hunt on Sundays in SC, but you still can't buy beer. Here in MD, you can buy beer, but you can't hunt. I've spent my life scouting, etc. on Sunday afternoons, so I'm used to it, but I can't say it makes a lot of sense - I'd keep going to church anyway!
-
I'm glad Texas got rid of it's Blue Laws.
-
Im a christian, and try to do the best i can on a daily bases, i go to church every sunday. That being said, i hunt on sunday afternoons after church. iv always understoodit that sundays are for rest, bowhunting is my escape,my rest. IMO and to me, if im not missing church to hunt, or sitting there thinking about hunting during church, i see nothing wrong with it. i see no difference in hunting on sunday and fishing on sunday.

Growing up in Tennessee in the 50's and 60's, hunting was not prohibited, however, my dad was opposed to hunting on Sunday...especially dove hunting.
In the 90's, he became a liberal and even went hunting after church. :dunno:
-
I knew there was a reason I lived in Nazifornia.Thats a realy lame law.
-
Glad Kentucky doesn't have that law!! I don't know if I could play by the rules.
-
And people give California crap for having strange laws... :dunno:
Guy
-
That is very ignorant.
-
No Sunday hunting in MA either! The next state close enough to hunt Sundays is VT for me.
-
Ontario has that law for gun hunting south of the French River...or at least it did. Not sure if we still do.
-
Thats just wrong, sorry guys.Nothing like that here in TX.
-
Where's the ACLU when you need 'em?
This from today's WaPo:
"The Virginia Board of Game and Inland Fisheries has endorsed Sunday hunting in the state after years of maintaining a neutral stance on the issue.
State law currently bans Sunday hunting and repealing it would require the General Assembly’s approval.
The board approved a resolution this week following a public comment period in which a majority of comments made supported Sunday hunting.
The board says 47 states currently allow Sunday hunting."
When I Googled "Hunting on Sunday" I found an article from a Pennsylvania newspaper that explained who is against Sunday hunting in that state: The Farm Bureau and the good ol' Humane Society of the US.
In 2009 New Jersey passed a law allowing only bowhunting on Sunday. The reason that happened is because the proponents of the ban had to plead "peace and quiet" as their rationale because pleading "keeping the Christian Sabbath" (as if there is something sinful about hunting) would almost certainly be ruled unconstitutional, so somebody in New Jersey said, OK, well what about bowhunting?
Thar be opportunity right there.
BTW, I was trying to post when the thread got moved. I figured it might, so I found it easy enough. ;)

I thought the thread got whacked. lol.

Even little RI has Sunday hunting. Maybe closer to you?
I guess for good ol' family time, I'll have to bring my kids to the strip club, have a few brews and smoke a joint. :nono:
It all came down to Rep. Roy (D) refusing to call a vote on it. He is opposed to hunting and he knew by previous vote of 20-6 (biparisan) in favor, that it would be passed if raised. I guess his agenda is more important than the people he serves.

When I was kid my dad was stationed aat Lakehurt Navel Air Station for a while in New Jersey. Same thing. No hunting on Sunday and for some reason doves were protected as well.
-
I believe OH had some Sunday hunting bias about 35 years ago? Oddly enough, many hunters in those states support these Sunday ban. I wouldn't live in such a state.
-
NC legalized Sunday Bowhunting - like others here I am a Christian and have always hunted Sundays - for too many years in neighboring states. Amazingly we had more trouble from hunters as if opposing Sunday hunting honors the Lord in any way which of course it does not.
-
Even in the Communist State of New Jersey we can bow hunt on Sundays!!!!
-
Why are the most dishonest people in our society running the country?
-
I remember blue laws when I was growing up. I have to say I miss them. Never effected hunting though. In this day and age of iPhones, Internet, emails, 24/7 it would be nice if we set one day aside for rest with our families. Just shut it all down. We did it for decades and never thought much of it. We should do it again.

I keep searching these threads for a fact that appears to escape everyone's thoughts: No Sunday hunting is clearly a blue law, and clearly a violation of the separation of church and state. It shouldn't take the ACLU, or a vote by any legislature. All it needs is a lawsuit, an "unconstitutional" ruling, and that should be the end of it. Has this been tried? If a state tries to say "well, it's so the prey can take it easy one day", this is clearly false given the fact that the ban is on Sundays. If it were Wednesday, the state might have a leg to stand on.

Jake, they are slowly changing that, they gave each municipality/county the ability to regulate it on their own. It is dumb, and I am a Christian too. The controlled shotgun/muzzleloader hunt ends on the Sunday, but here in Hamilton/Halton/Haldimand counties you can't gun hunt on Sunday. I can bowhunt on Sunday but not during the controlled hunt so basically No One can hunt on that one day?

Ha ha I posted before I realized how old this thread was, or that there was a page 2 :-) I was referring to Ontario's law
