TJ, Congrats again on a great deer bud!
Your mount looks very good,I hope you don't mind that I offer some constructive critisizm(I've judged some pretty big taxidermy competitions).
The one thing that stands out to me is your taxidermists use of white paint around the eyes and nostril openings. Compare it to the hero shot, I think you'll see what I mean.....
Maybe you could ask him to take some of it off,for a more natural look.....
But overall you have a fine looking mount there bud, a memory of a great hunt that you'll have to look at forever!

Great mount!

Southern deer mounts are always show so much definition. I guess there skin is thinner than there northern brothers, or maybe the hair is slicker. Whatevever it is thats agood lookin mount. Joe

TJ what a great buck to be taken with traditional gear, you should be very proud. The mount is very nice and should serve as a great reminder

Guru, I noticed the same thing when I saw the photo's together. If I am blessed with another worthy mounter I definitely will bring that up. Don't get me wrong it looks nice but a little "Dolled up" for me. I do think I would prefer a more natural look.
JoeM, I shot this buck Sept. 1st. He was in the transition stage from summer to winter coat. Our Kentucky deer do get thick coats but not until around November-January. If you look close you can see remnants of his red summer coat.
Thanks guys I as you love these critters and bringing one home from the taxidermist is a joy. I wish we could all have that feeling at least once every year.

Just a little overdone, but like I said overall a good looking mount!
I hope you are "blessed" with another bud

Great deer and a beautiful mount.
-
Great deer - I love the sticker.
No offense here - but I have to be honest.
I'm not a fan of your taximdermist's work. The white around the eyes, the color in the ears, and the black on the nose doesn't look right to me.
Look at the trophy shot and compare.

Great buck, congrats and Guru knows his stuff. I believe a World Champion twice in the 90's. He does great work!! Great mount though as well! Shawn

JD, That's been covered already, and in a much less "offensive" way. Did you not read the whole thread?

GREAT buck, congratulations. :notworthy: Very nice field photo too. :archer:
-
Great wallhanger! Way to go!

The flash of the camera really pronounced the white. I think the white balance needs adjusting in it. Again I agree that it is a little too much but it's really not that white looking. I know have 9 mounts from 4 different taxidermist and this guy is head and shoulders above the others in my area. This taxidermist does very good work as can be seen in the extra efforts he puts into his mounts. A lot of these things are personal opinions of course but as I stated earlier I do like them to look as natural as possible.
Here is a photo taken without the flash.
