I was making this knife as a xmas gift for my best friend and hunting buddy of 30+ when he died of Lou Gehrig's disease this past Thanksgiving. The two crossed arrows that you can just make out on the side were done in india ink.
Native american Symbols of friendship. The green and black glass beads and turkey feathers symbolize a swift journey. On the end of the antler burr that you can't see I painted the native american medicine wheel for eternal health. I was able to finish it up in time for it to be burried with him. Just wanted to share a pic of the most memorable knife that I have ever made. (http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y215/JOHN4Mystikbow/Harrysknife.jpg)

Thanks Drew. Lewis, No I didn't knap the blade. A good friend of mine in Missouri knapped it for me.

Mystikbow, That is very special...I know the feeling. Awhile back a good friend was dieing of a brain tumor when he asked me to make his high school friend/best man at his wedding a bow. He was a very accomplished artist in oils and I felt honored that he thought of my craftsmanship.
Anyway it became an obsession with him and I didn't have time to come up with a bow. So I told him I just so happened to have one that I previously made that he could have. This particular bow was my best ever but I felt the urgency of the situation.
He passed away two weeks after I gave it to him...yes he was able to give it to his best man who later took an elk with it. Carma and Timing sometimes goes hand in hand...Doc
