This was the last knife out of three I was taking out of the fire place to put in the oil and it slipped out of my clamps!!! Man I am a idiot! LOL
-
It was funny my wife was down stairs and when she was coming up I said, "You are gonna be SO mad at me".....she said...HAHA no Im not Sweetheart cause your the one thats gonna have to pay to replace it! Sighhhhhh
-
:( What a bummer! :( The good news is no one was hurt (thanks in no small part to an understanding wife). :)

Yeah I know. The carpet flamed up as soon as the RED hot blade touched it. Luckily I was wearing a THICK oven mit and just tapped it out, but as you can see I re-droped the blade two more times trying to pick it up so fast! LOL
-
just continue the pattern on the rest of the floor??? :)
-
A nice fireproof throw rug in front of the stove?
Larry
-
That burn has a nice shape. Now show us the blade. I feel for you man!
-
Why did you drop it 3 times???? Time to buy a rug for in front of the fire place.
-
Read three posts up RGK, I panicked!! LOL
The blade on the bottom is the infamous blade. Hey at least I have a permenant template on hand if i want to make another! LOL

:scared:

Yessir ! I would not have been able to start this thread, cause my wife would have put me in a pine box. I drop stuff just like that all the time, except its after I have consumed 2 or 3 adult beverages.
:biglaugh:

I'd use a different quench medium next time :scared: Too bad it's carpet in house & not in work shop. Sorry...Doc
-
LOL, Yeah Doc someone told me too try Carpet fiber as a quench medium so I figured I would give it a shot. Funny thing is the fibers pretty much disolved as soon as the blade touched them, I dont thin it helped the blade cool slowly but hey what do I know!! HAHAHA
-
I like Catfishon's Idea LOL
-
Your wife is gonna kill you. You better sleep in the garage. LOL
-
That looks pretty bad. Shouldn't cost too much to fix though. That new piece of carpeting should blend right in.
-
you could install a couple rows of ceramic tile in front of the fireplace, or if you have a piece of that carpet, it could be pieced in there. just a couple of suggestions from a flooring guy. dcl

now you know why people's homeowners insurance premiums are so high- I feel for you friend but you really ought not be doing industrial activities inside your home.
Last Thanksgiving 27 homeowners burned down their house by deep-frying turkeys inside their garage so they wouldnt have to be "out" in the weather.
Even without that going on...you should have a fireproof mat in front of that fireplace anyway, so you ought to do that.
If your contractor left you any spare pieces of carpet, and he should have, you can patch that and no one will know- go to DIY.COM and it will show you how to patch carpet.

Thanks Ray, but sometimes we all do things not thinking anything will go wrong! HAHA
Its all fun to joke about it now but you are right.
But I will tell you this much there will be NO Heat treating in the house anymore!
As soon as it happened I could only think of burning the whole house down just to make a few knives. I am in the process of building a outside treating system now.
Oh and a nicely placed firerug is now covering the "Dork scene" as my wife calls it! HAHAHA
