i know that no matter how i say it and describe it most of you will think i'm 3 cans short of a 6 pack but i'm use to that! when i was 16 the first buck i shot was a B&C 171 1/8 9 point. it was #1 in Ny that year and still ranks 30th i believe. got a great shoulder mount done on it. in the last few years i have changed a lot and wish to pay the respect due to this king of the mountain and i do not feel hanging him in a sport shop is an honor. i am going to give the mount to a good friend of mine and all i ask is that he makes me a knife. my friends work is secound to none and in my eyes it honors this deer by making something beautful and carring on his spirt in the wild by way of fine knives. at one time Cabelas offerd me $4000 for him to pout in thier showroom and i turned them down so yeah i do know what it is worth in $$$$ terms but that does not interest me and is exactly what i feel is a disshonor. i will save a couple pieces of antler for pipes and a knife handle or two.

WOWZERS!!!!!! Kenny that is a super buck right there. You gotta do what ya feel is right.<><
-
i follow my hearet brother and this is what i feel shows respect and honor. i doubt many knives are made from B&C bucks. i will have my friend make me a knife of my choice and style, i'm thinking an up-swept blade, razor sharp in a frontier style and cross draw sheath.
-
Yeah not many for sure. Better be a BIG knife. Gonna be a M&L knife?<><
-
yup. ;)
-
I wanna see piocs when ya get it. He makes a sweet knife for sure.<><
-
I absolutely respect your decision Ken. I might even recomend a small folder you can carry with you everywhere.

Brother the spirit of that great buck will carry far with want your going to do with it. I like you, agree no animal deserves to be shown or taken in a unrespectable way. To brag and make money from it. That is not the purpose of them. I have a shed full of racks i have taken over thirty some years and the best joy i got and get is to cut them up and to make gifts for friends out of them and pass it on. Three cans short of a six pack??? No brother your walking your own path. And your in good company.
-
i think sticshootter summed it up for me in the first post.
Although i have never met you Mr.Mowery i always love reading your posts, and the respect you have for nature. Thats an incredible animal and deserves whatever you feel is right

KEN, FOLLOW YOUR HEART! THE IDEA OF A SMALL FOLDER IS REALLY COOL. HE COULD ALWAYS BE WITH YOU. THAT IS ONE MAGNIFICENT BUCK.
GOD'S PEACE
-
he will allways be with me, i plan to keep a small piece of antler in my medicine bag. will also have a special pipe made from the antler.
-
Awsome! Love the plan.

I love the idea of a folder :0)

The reason you don't see many handles from B&C bucks is the knives would have to be HUGE!
3 cans short of a 6 pack... maybe, but if there were more of us who were the world would be a better place!
-
slabs, brother, slabs! my buddy will have enough slabs for 200 knives!!! will also have some big handles for bowies.
-
Make sure a picture of the buck accompanies each knife made. That is sure to cement the image of that grand animal in to the memory of the knife owner. Just my 2 sense worth.

I think you a doing a great honor to that animal.
I applaud you sir.

Good luck Ken, hope those knives bring you the spirits of the ancients to watch over you as you go through the mountains...They will have Big Medicine.
-
A brave statement Ken.I like that you dont see any material value in it, thats very honorable but I have a suggestion for you.Have a replica rack made to preserve the memory of the buck as is.Im beggin ya.Very nice buck by the way.
-
Izzy,
pictures and memories are all i need. i do plan on having a custom knife, an antler ring and a few pipes made from him also. the B&C scoring system and the spotlight are something i do not care for at all anymore.
-
I understand Ken.That big bowie of yours is the only knife Ive ever held that scared me :scared: .Especially cause I was standing on that ice rink of Shawns. Is this next knife gonna be anything like that?
-
just desigen the next one with my buddy. slight upswept blade, double tempered and a small guard. thick main beam antler handle. going to be smaller and lighter then the bowie. not that i want to use a knife to disspatch animales but this one will be desigened with that in mind. i will also have a small folder made, that was a great idea!
-
"Pictures and memories are all I need."
That pretty much sums it up and now you will have a knife that will rekindle those memories more often.
Looking forward to seeing pictures what you end up with.

real real neat bro
-
Ken that is what it's all about. If more folks got it, hunting would be in much better shape. Thanks!
-
you're a better man than me Ken. I couldn't do it.
-
Ken bro is that the bowie you had the shoulder harness made for?
-
I have lots of things I could say, but to be plain, I disagree with your decision. However, its yours and I wish you good luck and hope regrets don't come along later.
-
That's a huge decision you have made, but on the other hand what better way to keep your memories alive than with a knife you will use often.
-
I would have a hard time doing this, but can say its a cool idea. I'm guessing that a knife with these handles would bring a fair price at a future St Jude's fundraiser. Just a thought. Maybe there's a partnership that can happen.
So before this great rack becomes slabs, any thought to having that set of antlers cast so that reproductions could be made?
-
guess i should update this huh! after MANY pm's and emails i had changed my mind awhile ago. the King of the mountain now resides at a local wildlife muesum for all to see. this muesum has an awesome display of NY taken game and trophies so he is in good company. i got a life time pass to boot for letting the guy put him there. :bigsmyl:
-
Good deal! So bro, where is the antler coming from for the AWESOME bowie of yours?

It would be great if everyone walked the same path that you do! Most will never!!

I know Charlie, I keep having that recurrent day dream of a big buck from the mountain this year...a loud grunt and the thump of a bowstring...Then the smoke diluting in the crisp air :bigsmyl:

I'm glad you went with your second decision. I don't think I could have done the first.

hey guys, first post here. cant think of a better way to pay tribute to a wild giant. you've had him on the wall for some time now, maybe it's time to return him to the field.
