Title: puma hunters pal

was this a good knife, I found one used for sale that was made recently, its not one of the older ones, what kind of steel is in these knives, I am trying to find one used at a lower price, can I see some pics if anyone has one?

thats what I'm looking for!, how easy is it to sharpen?, do you know where I can find a used one like that?

They are nice.  If the blade is made in Germany.  Alot of them are now being made in Mexico.  It will say on the blade.

This is an older one, high carbon steel, easy to sharpen.  Keep your eyes on flea bay and get to know the serial #'s

My dad got one of the new ones for my sons birthday. the fit and finish arn't good. I would like to think the steel is the same quality as the old ones, but I don't know. somewhere along the line Puma , just like Case, Buck, and all the others let quality controle go out the window. I,m sure it was to try to keep prices down in order to compeat with the The kershas and gerbers being made in Japan and sold at Wallyworld! whatever the case the quality in workmanship isn't there any more. Man, don't get me started

Yea, I love cases. I still buy the knives I'm gripeing about. It's just that some of the things that they will let slide in the factory nowdays drives me crazy.

I am glad case still makes carbon, I have a yellow handled trapper that is my favorite pocket knife

Imho, anything made in solingen is a quality piece of steel. As others have commented, you can't go wrong with the older models. This White Hunter copy was built as a german pilot survival knife. I like it better than the Puma model because it's finger gaurd is integral to the blade...all one massive piece of german steel. It has become one of my favorites, not only by design, but it gets simply wicked sharp on my paperwheel...

As Jeff said, you can find quite a few of the older Puma knives on fleabay, sometimes a good deal, sometimes not. Stay with the german models and you won't be sorry.
