A little about this knife. A friend had me make this knife for a guy in Kansas. The guy owns a farm where my friend hunts Turkeys every year for free. My friend wanted to get him something in appreciation.
The blade is 4 3/4 inch long and is made of 1084, L-6, and a plowpoint found on the farm. I folded it about 250 layers and reverse etched the barbed wire pattern on each side of the blade. The gaurd and pin are stainless and the wood is Walnut.
The farmer should get the knife this week while they are hunting. Lin

Lin, That reverse etching is really cool looking. How deep is the etch as to wear-a-bility? tippit

Being a farmer myself, I think that is way cool!!!

Very nice Lin, I am glad you posted this as I know it won't be at the blade show.
Reverse etching, please explain?
I am guessing you apply a coating where you don't want it etched, leaving it shiny silver color?
Your creativeness is to be commended.

Thanks, yes Dan, I used a type of varnish to draw the barbed wire and it resisted the etch. That requires the blade to be finished before hand though.
This is the blade and my supplies before I etched.

Once again you show why you are one of the best! Great job Lin!!!!

A varnish, eh?
I wonder...I use ferric chloride to etch with, I assume that is what most use, the companys that sell it also sell marking pens that are used to mask off the etch on printed circuit boards. Wonder if it works on steel too, maybe easier.

Incredible knife Lin, very unique design.

Wow, now I understand...the bard wire pattern is the only part that is Not etched. That is just amazing! Not only that you have to be an artist to draw the reverse etch pattern. Truly amazing :notworthy: :notworthy: tippit
