Title: O1 antler hadle

I finished this one this weekend for a my old partner.  He is addicted to his deer hunting.  He brought me in some antler pieces wich I used in the handle.

This is my third (stock removal).  It was hard to get everything to line up nice.  Still isnt perfect but that O1 pops hair like popcorn.

Skullworks I am not stealing your buck print mark.......but it fit so well with the person getting this one I just had to use it

enjoy.

Looking GOOD!  Normally I am not an antler kinda guy, but I like that one.

Thanx guys I appreciate the kind words.  I forgot the dimensions.  It is 3/16x 1.5" flat ground O1,  the blade is 6" long.  

The sheath is 15oz vegetable tan.  It worked out nice I sowed the top to be pretty tight then loosened it with some mink oil and slid the knife in.  Now when you put it in it reaches a point where it sort of "clicks" into place.    

I dont have a way to test the hardness but I took it back at 425 deg so im guessing aroung 60-61 RC

Can anyone tell me if this tool steel will bend before breaking at this hardness?

I just love the feeling of giving my knives away!  I wish I had more time to build them!

Scott, I'd be willing to bet that unless you differentially heat-treated the blade it'd probably break but used properly that should never be a problem. I'm sure it'd "flex" a bit but I don't think I'd try to find out if it was mine  ;)

Thanx Doug.  I kind of figured that would be the case.  Maybe I'll try a differential heat treat on the next one.
