Title: Knife making - Starting out
Post by: Leo L. on June 04, 2008, 11:18:00 AM
Lately I've taken a real interest in knife building, and have been saving supply websites to my favorites.  So far that's the extent of it.  Was just wondering if yall could help me out and post some more supply links.

And the more important question, where do I start?
Are there books/videos on the subject I can reference to help me get going on this?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Leo

Wayne Goddard's 50 dollar knife shop

just do a search on Amazon.com for knife making books...

A book by Boye is really good...so is the Loveless book..

I saw the book in "Halfprice Books" in Arlington, TX. A whole rack full about 75 copies of it and didn't buy it.

I just ordered it from booksamillion and paid about $5 more for it.

are you going to try and forge your own blade or start with a kit?

I am going to start with a kit.  I was looking at the filet knife they have in one of the basic tutorials at north coast knives.  They also have the Puuko, a Finish camp knife.  Then I'd try some stock removal from a piece of flat stock.  I'd really like to try playing with different woods authentic to the areas I hunt in, e.g. Buckeye Burl from Ohio, Cypress from Louisiana, etc.
