Figured I'd start a thread and maybe everyone will follow suit.
Let's post pics of the knives and who it came from.
Skippy
Congrats to all who participated this year. It is my first swap and you best believe I'll be bringing bigger and better next year. Thanks to Jeremy for doing all the leg work. :clapper: :clapper:

Please post some pics!!! I commenced my journey into the dark side (as a traditional archer) just last September and I've refinished 3 older recurves, made 3 plains-style quiver and now looking for inspiration in making knives. Already have 2 blanks cut from a circ saw blade. Is there a 12 step for my addiction? Seriously, I'm anxiously awaiting the pics of the 50 some blades!

I hope the guy who gets mine doesn't take his picture with my knife, he is much better looking then the blade I swapped!

My son sead "wow dad that that knife is a lot cooler than your knives :knothead: :biglaugh: (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/lsrbear/DSC00298.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/lsrbear/DSC00300.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/lsrbear/DSC00302.jpg) (http://i267.photobucket.com/albums/ii314/lsrbear/DSC00303.jpg)

I came home to a box with a great looking knife and an equally pretty neck sheath. It's funny, I told my wife when Derek (Longbow) posted them and said one is "headed due south" I told her I sure hope it's the one with the little cross in the center and headed for Florida. I love neck knives!I really like it a lot and think it's cool that the wood came from your place. Thanks Derek.

Two came to me in the mail yesterday. One from EL OSO and the other from ALW. Both are great knives and both made me feel a little "un-worthy".
Both are very sharp, great fit and finish and feel nice in the hand.
El OSO's has a full tang with 3 brass pins and what is becoming his trademark upswept blade design. My fiance really likes this one John so I think it will ride her belt a lot this fall.
The ALW is a very nice hidden tang drop point(my favorite blade design) with osage and brass in the handle. This little knife feels like it grew from my hand.
Both blades will see action as I believe tools are to be used and not just looked at. I will try to report back when they have been bloodied. Thank you so much, both of you, and all who participated this year. This is so much fun. I am also happy to report that I have been learning to forge and will hopfully have a few real gems for next years swap. - Bob Urban
Those are certainly great knives...But you need to edit them in something like Photobucket down to 640 pix or less. Thanks...tippit

Sorry about that - here they are again
-
Bobby Urban, hope the knife holds up for you well.
I also received my knife yesterday. It is from Tippit. All I can say is WOW! A beautiful camp knife with file work. A nice heavy blade. I will get pictures this evening when I get home. Thanks Tippit. The craftsmanship is great and this knife will definitely get some use.
Thanks Jeremy for all the work to get this swap put together. After receiving such a nice knife though, I can see I need to get better at knife making before next year! Thanks again to all involved.

Glad you like it Larry! Can't believe it got there so quick!
Incedentally, if any white or waxy looking spots show on the sheath, I may have overwaxed it slightly, they'll just buff clean off ;)

C'mon Folks. Where are all the pics?
I think Jeremy said there were somthing like 80 knives swapped this year. LETS SEE EM!
-
I'm pretty sure mine will be here by Fri., or Sat. at the latest, and I'll get it right up , probably the same day it arrives. The one I sent mine to should be getting it any day now also, if not already.
Enjoying looking at the others too, for sure.
-
I got this nice one from Owl Bait last week, it is O1 steel and zebrawood handle.
He put a nice polished finish on the blade and it is WICKED sharp, from one end to the other. It'll make your eyeballs bleed from looking at it!
I hope everyone is as tickled with their knife as I am!
Thanks Owl Bait!

Well, here's the knife I received from Tippit. Dandy camp knife made from 1080 high carbon steel. It has file work on the spine and I'm not sure of the handle wood, but I'm thinking cocobolo. Very nice knife with a heavy duty blade. Thanks again Tippit. Can't wait until next year.

I got my knife in the mail last night from skullworks. This is my first knife swap and my first handmade knife from someone else here on tradgang. I have to say I love it and hope to put it to good use on my first trad kill this fall. Thank you skullworks. The handle is mule deer antler. The sheath is 7-8oz handsewn and tooled. Skippy

Another good'un, skullworks!
Well, now you'll know ... the "rest of the story" - LOL Today, as predicted, I received my knife from that "ol' boy" Jeff Dorris posted about a few posts above - and (as I knew, and some of you may have suspected) that "ol' boy" that jeff wanted to get off his butt and get my knife to me, was none other than ... Jeff Dorris - LOL We had a number of PhonCons because he wanted time to do a couple of special things for me but wanted to make sure I wanted them on a knife. He's a great guy to talk to too. Namely he felt me out about finger grooves and snake skins.
So, without further ado, here is my "Snakey Gut Hook" from Jeff Dorris, repleat with Finger Grooves and Copperhead Snakeskin handle backing - and I love it:
OH wait - one other thing - Jeff had one cyber friend call him after his post and ask couldn't he be a little kinder to whoever was the poor guy who was supposed to send me my knife??? Of course he had to laugh at himself after Jeff told him who it was. He hadn't even noticed the smiley face. Good watching out for our members though.

Thank you, Jeff, for the knife - and for another good cyber friendship. Jeff also won the "Afghan, with a history" that my wife made for my mother (St. Jude Auction)
-
glad you liked it bernnie sorry for the crapy brad work on the sheath kinda got out of line there . hope you enjoy it for a long time to come Jeff
-
Thanks for that too, Jeff, and I will do my best to hang around to enjoy it a long time. I forgot to mention, it has a dark, wood cap on the end of the handle but neither Jeff or I were sure what kind of wood it is - looks nice on there though.
-
Now thats what I'm talkin about. Great pics. and cool knives guys.
-
I got this one from Brett Landon. Sweet! Sat out on the porch with a glass of Good Scotch and toasted the maker! Thanks Brett! Nice work!

Mighty nice knife - good taste (never could develope a taste for Scotch - to each his own)
-
Now ya can't just say yer havin' a Scotch and NOT tell me what yer drinkin'!! ;)
Nice looking knives!
-
I received, in the mail, yesterday a beautiful knife.
-
NICE!!
David, What kind of wood is that?
-
Looks like it might be Spaulted something-or-nother. Mighty pretty all over including file work.
-
the wood on the knike is cherry burl that I cut from my land two winters ago. The burl that was above this one was alot more red. I really like the blonde color though. I hope you like it!!!
-
Wow - I gotta start looking for more burl(s)!
-
Wow is right. Dave did a beautiful job on that one. Having seen it in person I know the pictures don't do it justice. (But I know that's probably true of all the knives posted so far.)
Awesome work everyone! :notworthy:
Gotta get in on next year's swap. (If Ru will agree to mentor me. )
-
I bet it looks equally sharp in a reddish color as well. I'm with you though Dave. I really like the looks of the blonde burl.
-
We'll I sent out a knife 11 days ago and haven't gotten any confirmation that the knife was recieved and haven't recieved a knife yet. Should I contact someone or be more patient? :bigsmyl: Chad
-
Received my knife from Brent Landon Friday. Thanks. My boy has already claimed it. I will post pics tomorrow. Brock

My 3 dogs are looking at me with really worred expressionson their faces (one of 'em's hiding under the bed!) as I walk around the house with this in my hand & a manic grin on my face! :bigsmyl:
I wanna go hunting bears! (Wearing just this anna loincloth! :D )
Thanks Loyd! :clapper: :clapper:

Hmmmmmmmmmmm, haven't seen confirmation of my knife (sent) arriving yet either - but then with the floods, etc. all over the country, I suppose it may not be any wonder if there are delays. Then again maybe he didn't like my little "Gecko" :( .
-
I am also waiting on confirmation of one of my knives... and another is somewhere in the system.
Thanks for all those who shared the pics and excitement of their knives!
Already planning and plotting for next year!
Mike
-
Yeah same here no confirmation yet but the post office tracking says it was delivered a week ago. I even sent an email through tradgang to the recipient and still nothing. Kind strange but I'll be patient a few more days before I panic about him being unhappy with it or something. Skippy
-
I have received knives from OconeeDan and Herkimerhunter. Still waiting on one. I will post pics when I have the last one. I will say that I am pleased with both of the knives I have received. I plan on putting them to good use when I move to Alaska at the end of this month.
Nick
-
I am also waiting on a reply on one of the knives I sent out. Tracking confirms that it was received. I sent a PM and I see that it was read but I haven't received a reply back.
I'm also waiting on one more but I received an e-mail last Thur. telling me that it's in the mail. Can't wait!! Great pics so far folks. Keep em coming.
I'm looking forward to next year already.
-
Here's a pic of the knife and sheath that I got in the swap from skullworks!
It's sweet!
Thanks Jeremy for doing the Knife Swap for the second year. I know it's got to be a lot of work.
-
Monday of last week I went to the Post Office to mail my three knives to their respective new owners. The Postmaster, his name is Dave, brought me three packages of my own. I took them home and promptly began bailing out my basement. For those who don't know, we in Iowa have been battling rain, water and swollen streams and rivers. I have had lake front property for the past week and have been desperately to save my shop in my basement. At last the water has receeded and the forcast is for no rain. Yay! Did anyone say knife swap!
Now that the packages have been opened and the knives properly fondled, and pictures taken, we can begin presenting the results to the rest of the gang.
The first package was return addressed from Chris Cade a.k.a. Mechslasher. Inside was this beautifully napped red headed bone handled insturment of death.
The picture does not do the blade justice. There are varying hues and flecks which are eye-poping and the edge is wicked sharp. This knife is going to find a new home in my next quiver. It is not only a keeper, but a companion. Thank you very much Chris, I love your stone knife.
Next to be opened was Chad Holm's box. Inside was this spectacular knife and sheath.
This polished beauty with it's figured walnut handle and brass pins fits snugly and securely inside this well moulded sheath. The handle fits my hand as though it was made specifically for me and the edge is scary sharp. This knife is my new hunting companion and I look forward to blooding the blade soon. Thank you for your wonderful hard work.
Finally, I opened the largest box and this creature escaped...
Do you see the silver-tounged devil? He's got the green eyes. Still can't see him? Try him now.
This beauty is from Bernie Dunn. I am so pleased that this particular knife wound up in my posession. This is now one of my special treasures and will be displayed with the rest of my 'trophies' and treasures. I can't thank you enough Bernie.
Now, since I clearly scored big in this particular knife swap, I hope those who recieve the knives I made will find a 'special' place for them. Sorry, guys. I'll do better next year.
Thanks to Jeremy for all his hard work and to all of you guys who participated. I hope you all feel like winners.
-Brett
-
Brett, glad you got the knife safe and sound. It was made to be used so have at it.
Best of luck with the flood problem. Chad
-
Elk Ninja,
Received your knife late last week. I'm sorry for not letting you know sooner but I have been ankle deep in flood water in my basement since last Wednesday.
I love the wood combo you used and can't wait to get the whole thing bloody this fall. The blade shape is one of my all time favorites It will either be in New Mexico or Colorado in September. My camera went for a swim so pictures may take a while to get posted.
Thank you,
Jeff
-
Brett, so sorry to hear about your (and all the other folks) bad times with the swollen waters, and glad they are beginning to subside in some areas at least. I was afraid this might be the case with folks on the swap list from the Midlands, etc.
I love the way you described and received my little Gecko w/ the steel tongue into your heart and home. (needless to say, I was more than a little concerned about sending such an unusual little critter out into the world - LOL)
I really like the other two knives you got too. May you have clear days ahead!
-
Jeff / Jsthnt,
No sweat bro, I am just happy to know it got there in one piece! You and all the other flooded people out there are in my thoughts and prayers! Hope everything dries out... and good luck in NM or CO!
I received a real nice piece from Jeff Fortner yesterday. Black and white ebony connected to a Green River/ Russel buffalo skinner knife via brass pins. Nicely done Jeff!
So here is what I got this year:
Thanks fellas!
Mike
-
Wow! Some really cool knives so far. I sent mine out about 10 days ago....haven't heard anything yet from the recipient as far as I can tell.
I got home from my bear hunt at 1 am last night..to find a package on my bed from England...all I can say is ROBTATTOO you make one mean looking knife my friend.
I'm going to carry it when I go hog hunting from now on.
I'll try to post a pic here in the next couple days...
-
Jeff, I got back from hunting this weekend with Chris Cade and found that really cool knife.I love that wood. Is it called future wood? Man those Helle blades are sharp as all get out and the sheath is just perfect. I wish it had came before I left and I would have got it bloody. Thank you very much and I can't wait till next year.Sorry, I can't get pictures up Eddie
-
Ray,Iam sorry,I posted last week on the other thread. Then I saw this one.I got the knife, very nice thank you.My son loves it .He may end up with it.I got a good laugh when I read the note.I wont dance with it.Thanks alot, Leon

Number 2 arrived yesterday, for me along with a few slabs of Osage floorboard (Thanks agan Brett  )
It's cool little blade shape, very useful. It'll be in my Africa pack for sure! :D
-
Purty (love the Osage inserts) - neat sheath too (is that Bison burned on, tooled & dyed, inked, or what?)!
-
Bernie, the bison is tooled and then dyed. The scales are osage, bubinga, and bacote. Rob is very flattering toward a novice knifemaker. Thanks!
-Brett
-
Nice job, Brett - thanks for the info.
-
I received my third and final knife today for this years swap from none other than...STICSHOOTER. YEAH BAAABY! I had to work 12 hrs. today so I'll have to get some pics posted tomorrow. Thanks Frank. She's a beaut.
-
Here's the neat little necker I got from Sticshooter yesterday--saw blade steel, bocote handle (guessing), neat sheath w/ beads. 7" OAL, about 1/2 wide, maybe 5/32 thick. Thanks , Frank. Larry
(http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/nn38/anortrup/knives/DSCN0807.jpg)
-
Sorry it took so long to get pics posted. Damn work. Here is the little beauty Frank sent me.
The handle is Red Cedar with a Nice full tang blade.
After unpacking and testing heft and feel in the hand and showing it to my 19yr. old son he promptly claimed it as his claiming that he didn't have a custome knife yet and I had many.
LOL Oh well. I do have two of Frank's knives already. :bigsmyl:
-
Sorry for the delay in posting. Here are the great knives I received from OconeeDan and Herkimerhunter.

I owe a couple guys a big apology!!! Sorry to Long Bow and Holm-made for taking so long in shipping the knives. I sent them UPS today and they should be there by Friday.
If they find them worthy then they can post pics. One is a zebra wood and whitetail antler handle and the other is elk antler. Both are Helle blades.
Now that I have finally found the time to ship those knives, I will focus on getting some pics taken if the two I received.
Once again, sorry fellas!!!!!

I figured with all the new people we have here I'd bring this thread back up.
I'll be running the 3rd annual knife swap again this year and will start the post just after the new year. I'm hoping with this little bit of extra notice we can get some more of the professional knifesmiths involved this year to sweeten the mix even more :D
We had 80 knives exchanged in the '08 swap. That's more than double the 36 that were swapped in '07! So... any guesses what this next year's total will be?? :D
-
I say we will double that again with :D

I was just telling Shell that I wonder when j,bird is going to start the knife swap? You read my mind Jeremy. BTW I will be sending you a little something very soon.<><
-
It was a blast for me and the knife I got from drewsbow was put to use on 3 fine whitetails this year.
-
Lets bring this back up top. Looking forward to this again this year! That would be great if we could get a couple of the professional knifesmiths to play along. I agree with Drewsbow. I'll bet we double the number this year.
Jeremy,
I haven't forgotten about ya. Seems like I can never get any extra time to work on the fun stuff lately.
