Title: Mike Carroll
Post by: Keith361 on January 25, 2008, 05:30:00 PM
I have an Alaska Peninsula Bamboo Caribou that I purchased a couple of years ago from a friend.
I tried for a long time trying to find out more info on the company/maker, with no results.

I just found out today that the bow was made by Mike Carroll, who used to work for Alaska Peninsula.

Does anyone have any info on Mike, where he's at now, does he still make bows...

I love the bow, super smooth, ultra quiet, and no hand shock. I would really like to get my hands on another one, but I have no idea where to start.

The last # I had for Mike was 325-669-0741 or 669-2685. Thats in Abilene,Texas.  His business is called M. W. Carroll custom homes.

I met Mike on the Martenina Ranch in south Texas on a deer hunt. We were the only ones shooting sticks. This was in 1990 and Mike`s longbow had 2 layers of wood and carbon,no fiberglass. The first time that I had seen carbon in a bow limb. I was hunting with about the 20th bow that I had built and he had built thousands, but he still went on and on about how nice my bow looked. Trust me when I tell you,he was just being a nice guy because his bow was beautiful and the fastest longbow I`ve ever seen, before or since. He was nice enough to explain in detail how he built it too.

We were also the only two hunters to kill deer that weekend on the ranch.

He is a great guy,and is very giving with information. I hope you find him.   Bob

If this is the guy I'm thinking of, I believe he's up here...for now.  His son works at sportsmens warehouse, I met him the other day.

HIs son's name is Chad Caroll, and works in the bow department...but of course...even if he shoots wheels   :)  !

I have MIkes number here and will give him a call, not sure if he wants his number published.  I have yet to talk to him or meet him personally.

My understanding is he doesnt make bows anymore but is planning on getting back into it.  It sounded like they were thinking of moving back to texas here soon.  I also shot one of his bows, it's been quite some time now, shot very nice.  Wish I would have bought a couple/three   ;)  .

I'll get back to you, or pm me....I might forget with turkey planning and the canoe taking up my time right now, but I'll do my bestest to call him tomorrow or sunday.

Thanks guys,

Saw a bow for sale on the auction site that looked like mine, turns out it was, only 74# @ 26"... bit too much for my 29.5" draw.

Alaska Peninsula was the name of Mike's bows when he lived in Alaska and was making bows there.

I don't remember if he carried on with that name when he moved from Alaska to Texas.
