Here is the simplest way to make you very own arrow saw for carbon, aluminum and wood! The cost should be well under $50.00 depending on if you can get the saw on sale and if you have any of the other items around the shop. Make sure when you apply the left read tape you measure from the blade back to where the angle aluminum starts at the saw so that you are cutting the length arrow from the nock to the end! I made this mistake on my fist arrow saw!!!!! You will notice I mounted my Bitzenberger jig to the board so that as I cut an arrow I fletch up the arrow. I use fletch tape on my carbons and it holds great!
Hope this helps. Mike
Harbor Freight Mini Cut Off Saw............$20.00
Pine Board.................................$5.00
Angle aluminum cut to 36"..................$10.00
Left read self adhesive tape...............$8.00
Aluminum door security slide stop..........$2.00

Good stuff right here. Thanks a lot!
-
P.S. That saw looks like it's never been used, lol.
-
Leo,
You're right with the observation......I've only cut about 2 dozen carbon arrows since I made this arrow saw. It's fun building one of these homemade arrow saws though!
Take care,
Mike

Nice Job Mike....I like the design and you've been creative, using normal off-the-shelf components.
-
Great job there Mike :)
-
Nice, I have added something else to my to-do list!
Is the angle aluminum 1X1X1/8?

wow!!! that is one smart arrow cut off saw. well done sir

Mike how long do those blades last cutting carbon. I bought on and the blade is already dull after several cuts on 1/2 doz carbons.

Nice job. Now this might inspire me to take the HF mini saw I bought out of the box and do something with it.
-
Very nice!
I have the same saw, just never made an actual stand for it and the arrows.I usually just mark 'em and chop with the saw.Love your idea!
-
Good stuff....Thanks for sharing that.
-
Very nice work.

I have made mine similar to that one,but I made my adjustable stop block alittle different.I made my block and drilled a taper with a chamfer bit like the more expensive saw stops.I'll set the arrow in the taper and adjust the vise end just loose enough to allow me to rotate the arrow shaft while I'm cutting it like the more expensive arrow saws.I bring the saw down into the arrow about half way through and rotate the shaft as it is cutting and that gives me a squarer cut.I like to use the abrasive blade and I've cut around 8-10 dozen carbons and 3-4 dozen aluminums on the same blade it came with. They are good little saws for cutting carbons.
-
Very nice job. I think I may copy it.

To answer a few questions......I can usually get at least 6-10 dozen carbon arrows cut before I have to put a new blade on. I recommend making several chops slowly so that the blade cuts the shaft clean. The number of cuts per blade depends on what type of arrows you are cutting. Yes I used 1"x1"X1/8" angle aluminum. I hope this helps and if you have a better design let me know as I am always playing with a way to make this set up better and better! Just keep this in mind when deciding if this saw is what you want.....this is made for a do it yourself person looking to cut a few arrows from time to time. I wouldn't recommend this saw if you are an archery shop cutting hundreds of arrows a day! The blades will eat you up in cost. Then I would say buy a good quality commercial grade Apple Arrow Saw which has the higher RPM's!
Take care,
Mike

Heck that is pretty neat i like that.

TTT......for those that need to learn how to make your own arrow saw!!!!
-
Thats just too cool.I already have the saw.Gotta make me a setup like that.Thanxx fer postin.
-
Aren't there abrasive blades made for that saw?
-
Thanks for the idea! That is a neat little set-up!
-
Excwellent job...one thing though, you need to get a 2" zip disk to cut carbons. The blade supplied with the saw is great for cutting woods but it tears the carbon fibers. Using a zip disk will fix that!!
-
Ya those little abrasive blades work best for carbon 2 incher is right...That little bugger is cool...Im traveling alot now cant make one..but thats cool!!! Mark#78

I like it and I think I got me a winter project coming up soon...Thanks for shareing your setup.Keefers <")))><

very nice

Mike, that is a great idea for the Harbor Freight saw! I bought one recently and have racked my brain trying come up with a way to set it up.
A few questions. Where do I get a left read self stick tape? Also, do you make any modifictions to the clamp at the saw? In the picture of the end of the saw it looks like a small piece of angle iron is in the clamp against the arrow. Thanks, Jim.
-
I made one like yours but I put the track on the other side and used one of my broken tape measures.
Works great.
-
Bux,
great idea, I like that saw.
Larry,
where do you get the 2" zip diskss
-
I added the websites for Harbor Freight for the saw and the replacement blades, as well as added the site for Klingspor's to buy the left read tape! Hope this helps and have fun putting it all together. I should take you about an hour once you get all the stuff from the stores. I haven't had a problem using the blades that come with it to cut carbon as I go slow when chopping and usually chop a little at a time until it cuts all the way through. I will have to try the other blades mentioned to see how well they work though!
Take care,
Mike

Can we get a picture of your stop? I'd like to see it.

I got abrasive wheels for my saw at McMaster-Carr for about $2 each and they cut aluminum and carbon great.

Cupcake, which abrasive wheel did you get??
-
Ive always keep it easy. I just measure and mark my shafts, then cut them off with either my metal chop saw, or my mini harbor freight chop saw. Any highspeed saw with an abrasive blade will work for any shaft.

TTT....For Terry who needs the info!

Great stuff! Thanks for posting buxntoms. I have used a dremmel freehanding it for a while because of the cost issue. This will be a much better setup and I needed another excuse to go to harbor freight :)

JRY309, would you mind posting a picture of the way your nock receiver is set up? I'd like the option to turn the arrow as I'm cutting, and I can't get a good mental picture of your rig. Thanks.

The cut off saw you show looks like it is unavailabe at Harbor freight according to your harbor freight address site.

Somehow it's not letting us post a direct link to the product. But if you go to the main page, and to the search, and type in "measuring tape" it will come up.
