Title: Static Recurves
Post by: Bear Heart on February 20, 2008, 08:41:00 PM
What exactly is a static recurve?  Who makes them?  Performance? Noise?

A static recurve has a very stiff end that acts as a lever is the simple explanation. Ballistik, RER, Black Mountain, and a few I can't think of right now make them. Bear used to make them once upon a time. They are usually quite fast and when tuned right just as quiet and in some cases quieter than most bows.

Kempf Kwyk Styk can be had as static as well.  Vermonster is speaking truth on the speed and quiet points.  My RER's have been very easy to quiet and very fast in comparison to other recurves I've owned.  Also, in the case of one I just sold, it was incredibly smooth drawing.  I don't know if this was because of the static tips, but it is a credit to good limb design.

I believe my new Whisperstik, is a static tip, and it is very quiet, and quick for a 47lb bow..

Jim Belcher(Belcher Bows) makes a beautiful static tip recurve. He is a real craftsman with many years of experience. Catch his ad in Traditional Bowhunter or go on line to view his bows.
