Title: Quick drying bamboo?

Was searching around trying to find the best way to dry bamboo and came across this. For those of you that don't look at the video it is a guy using a torch to dry bamboo.

My question is has anyone tried this. Is this a bad idea for drying bamboo that is going to be used as backing?
