Title: Tuning question
Post by: BRONZ on March 03, 2008, 10:15:00 AM
I've been shooting a 45# Martin while waiting  for my 45# Chekmate Falcon. I'm working on tuning some GoldTip 3555's with the Martin. My question is: Should I expect the arrow performance to be similar between the two 45# bows? I plan on tuning more 3555's for the Falcon, but was curious about what other's experience has been.   :)

Can't speak to your specific bows, but I've tuned Gold Tip 3555's for other bows that were the same weight.  The tuning will be similar, but probably won't be identical.  My experience is that you will be adding or taking off a 20 grain weight from one bow to the other from either the front or the back of the arrow to achieve good bare shaft flight.  I tend to use different nock colors to indicate which arrows have been made up for which bows.  In addition, I mark on the outside of the shaft in felt tip pen what internal weights were used.

Probably really close.  The Martins are all good performers.  Never shot a Checkmate.

Dare I? Oh, what the heck...

Depends on whether the Martin has a riser shelf cut the same amount toward center as the checkmate.

Center cut or center shot makes a huge difference in spine requirements between bows of the same poundage but different center cut!
