Title: A yummy start to the season...
Post by: Doug Campbell on August 27, 2009, 11:47:00 PM
I've been watching this herd of goats coming to water for a few days and today had a chance to get away for a little while. Since I'm too dang claustrophobic and can't seem to hit anything from a blind I threw my ladder stand up in a hawthorn bush next to the river where they'd been coming thru. They say antelope seldom look up and today prooved it, my feet aren't 8' off the ground and I should have stuck out like sore thumb. With a dozen of the sharpest eyes around within 10 yards I was able to draw my bow completely un-noticed. This old girl was unlucky enough to be closest and was also one of the biggest of the bunch. No bucks were in sight and these are way too tastie to pass up so she was "it".

Was shooting my 58# BBO LB by Keith Deters. First kill of hopefully many with it, sweet shooter, AD shafts and a Tusker head. Since I've got two more tags I plan to go back and do the same thing again tomorrow  ;)

She's got the biggest horns, 4 1/2", of any doe I've ever seen.

Here's what the stand looked like, it was pretty wobbly but the goats standing right under it didn't care.

I'd normally say "congratulations!" or "nice job!" or some similar nicety, but I'm still p.o.'d that you've decided to vacation in Hawaii with some gal instead of hunting pigs with us guys.  See if you ever get another happy-face pancake from me.    :readit:    ;)

I never got a chance to bend that green stick in Wyoming...  Looks like it works pretty well!    :wavey:
