Let me walk this through and see if I can make sense. I get an email from TG saying that a thread I'm subscribed to has a new posting. I click on the link. I'm taken to a TG page that says the topic I'm looking for doesn't exist. If I go in directly from the webpage instead of the link I can find the thread. What gives?
Thanks,
John

which topic thread?

Forgive me. I should have been more specific. It is all of them and it has been going on for some months now. The latest was when you posted a reply to this question. I get the email, click on the link, and get a message saying I've requested a topic that does not exist.

since the vast majority of members have no problem with email notifications for posts or pm messages, i'd say it's and issue on your end. possibly server or email based. since your mail is web based via google, it would need to be tested. you can test it yourself if you create another new email account, go to 'my profile' and change your email address to the new account, log back on with the new password yer given, post a reply to this thread and see if your notification works.
BUT for starters, you can forward me the notification email that trad gang sent you that went to the dead page.

I forwarded the email. Here's where the link takes me;

got your email, john - the link contained in your notification works just fine for me ... takes me right here to this thread, as it should.
something appears to be filtering/redirecting on your end .... ?

That's strange. It does it on the Gmail address and the one for Road Runner. Oh well, I can live without the direct link.
Thanks,
John

got to be a reason.
try this - access your gmail email account from a totally different computer and computer net access. i'd be really interested to know if you have the same problem.

Rob,
Much to my surprise, the problem seems to be with Gmail. Accessing my email account from another computer provided the same result, a message from TG saying that the topic doesn't exist. The page is the TG one complete with advertisements. When I forwarded the email with the link to my other email account (Road Runner)clicking the link took me to the topic instead of the error message. Very strange. I'm on a few other forums and links in emails work fine on them.
Take care and thanks,
John

why am i not surprised. maybe there are google email paramters that need to get tweaked, or maybe that cheapsake trad gang admin didn't pay a tribute to google, inc. aaaa, who knows. as long as the major part of the mystery solved.

I changed my email address on TG back to the RR one. Works fine now.
Thanks again,
