Title: Blacktail Headshot Turkey # 2
Post by: Buxndiverdux on May 01, 2017, 10:18:00 PM
I tagged out Friday. 9" beard, 19.8lbs, 1.4375 and 1.125 spurs.
Actually a neck shot, but I'll take it.

Bow is 50# @ 26". I have broken some necks and sliced open some heads, but never a full decapitation with trad gear. I have gotten a few full decaps with other gear.

Beman MFX 500's with brass insert, footing and Solid D-Cap 200 gr. Now that I think about it, it adds up to about 600 grains total. My normal arrows with 145gr heads are 540 grains.

That's the only one I can remember that locked onto the hen and ignored the Tom decoy. Every bird that has come in and made contact with the decoys(over 50) has always come to the Tom. I have 38 minutes of footage with this bird courting the hen. He mounted her 3 different times before I finally just decided he wasn't coming closer and shot him.

A good buddy of mine has had 3 come to a hen and ignore the Toms out of his last 50 birds. It is rare IMO.
