Do any of you use a manual hydraulic press for knife making?

Yes indeed.  They are pretty nice to have.

What type do you use or recommend?

I have a homemade "C" type press (open on one side, built with big I beam).  A good buddy welded it up for me and I assembled the parts after consulting Batson's Hydraulic Press Book - which is very helpful if you are going to build your own.  If you are going to buy one, check out Coal Iron presses - I have been following those guys for a while and they do very good work.

I built a 24 Ton "H" press using Batson's book. I have been using it for a few months. I can take any size stock and turn it is to usable size in minutes. What an eye opener! [ You are not allowed to view attachments ]
