Title: Dumb question

With split release and one nock you press the knock up into the string with your fingers (nock on top)

String walkers run two nocks and hold fingers away

I forget how normal 3 under guys do it. Two nocks or fingers holding up to nock (Nock on top)?

String walking is just a variation of 3 under.  Two nock locators recommended.  For split, one or two depending on what you like.  IF only one locator, then you have to decide whether to nock above or below, again personal preference.

Thanks Arne. Why do you need the lower on 3U if your hand is snugged up to the nock like split?

I totally get it when doing a crawl but it seems like if it works for split it would be the same for 3U. Know what l mean?

Because the nock tends to slide down the string after release.  You don't want that.  Same is true with split and nocking under the locator but play with it.  If nocking over the locator with split, good to go IMO. That's what I do.

Everyone needs to play with this and find what they like.

IMO, two nocks are cheap insurance whichever way you shoot. Why couldn't the arrow slip UP  on release if you nock over?

It MAY but all the video I've seen, it goes down.  Actually, I don't know if it would or can go up but bottom line is that I have never had a problem with one locator and nocking above it.  Split finger.  That can be a problem 3 under.

As I suggested find what works and what you like.

When shooting with three fingers under the arrow, the string is going thru the nock on an angle. This shows up on the first of Reddogge's videos. This angle prevents the arrow from moving up but it will surely increase its chances of being pushed down on release of the string

The arrow slips down the string because we nock above 90° and the arrow is seeking the center of the bow after release. >>>>-----> Ken

Will have to try nocking above the locator.  Good tip..
