Title: JUST PLAIN LUCKY..
Post by: arrow30 on October 11, 2018, 07:59:32 PM
I had planned on sitting in a different stand that I had just put up a few days earlier, but when I got there I noticed the trail didn't have any fresh tracks on it.   soooo,  change plans. not much buck sign in my little hunting spot, or just deer sign for that matter, tracks are very few .
so I went to a little clearing that I thought a deer might pass through, put up my stand and climbed in at about 4:30 the wind was back and forth, and I was pinching little bits of cotton and watching as they floated away. down and around they would go, actually had one float away then come back at me.

I was pretty sweaty still and the cool wind had me pretty cold, and sunset was getting close.
I figured nothing would show, and I was just waiting to get down and leave.
I had my bow hanging on one of those fold up easy hangers, great Idea if you don't put it right out in front of you. :knothead:
i was watching in all directions, my head was back and forth trying to catch any movment before anything go to close so i could stand up.
then i see a doe stick her head out of the thick honey suckle under a cedar tree.just behind that tree in the picture.

she looked in my direction, (i thought she picked me off already) but she continued on out in to the opening.

i lifted my bow off the hanger slow and easy and got my fingers on the string, shes moving steady right through the clearing , im drawing and following her (consentrate now)...$#@%^& ..my bow wont move!

its hungup on that hanger, so i look up to see how to move to get it unhung. its free..she looks right at me, i come to full draw , get on her and let go. the lighted nock shows the hit was not perfect. it happened all so fast..she dropped and spun and went through some nasty tangled vines and sticker bushes. ( she ran through the brambles and she ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldnt goooo!)

so i went around to the other side to see if i could find where she came out.

YUP, she came this way...she was only about 40-50 yards past that crash site. and about 30 yards from my truck. :biglaugh:

That's a heck of a gash.
I've been told that luck is the point where skill and opportunity meet.
Congratulations on a nice kill.

Congrats. I became a true Simmons fan on my doe last week. And I'm just shooting the tigersharks - not the big ol' treesharks. Nice job!
