... in horsehoes and hand grenades; but, I was close to shooting a P&Y yesterday.
I scouted a creek crossing during turkey season and hung a camera in late Oct. I had only does and small bucks until the rut hit and found several shooters in the area.

Yesterday morning, I snuck in a took position in a natural ground blind I built to hunt thunder chickens. I had a 100" 8 point come in at first light. An hour later, I look up the hill and see antlers coming toward the timber edge. I ease my Fox from the ground stand and start talking my heart rate down. His 12 point rack will likely reach 150". He is milling around slightly, but obviously committed to the trail that leads passed my hide. Then, all of a sudden, his head snaps up, he stares off to the east, grunts, and takes off running! "No!" He curves north, and I am sure he's cutting an angle on a hot running doe.
I'd like to tell you the wind was causing the tears in my eyes; but, wind speeds were only 3-5 mph. Ha!
Season is not over yet! Praise God for the amazing encounter.
