bowzonly from NJ should see this. He's done a lot of pheasant hunting with a bow.
I killed one flying bird on the wing with a longbow, a chukar partridge, but didn't get a picture.

Shot this one on the wing flying left to right with my Longbow.

The Traditional Bowhunters Of Maryland was having one of our annual Pheasant hunts. By the time I had gotten there(I was late getting there) they were already out in the fields. As I was approaching them walking through a very wet cut corn field, they hollered out that they have one bird that would not fly but would only run. And just as I was stepping into one of the rows of the corn field this pheasant took out running straight down the row I was in, and I already had an arrowed nocked. Without out thinking about it I came up with my Robertson bow and let fly from about 12-15 yards, and I kid you not that broadhead took the head right off of that pheasant. You can see in the pic of one of the 2 birds that the head is missing. Believe me it was a total instinctive shot. And if you look at the bottom of my pants leg in the pic, you can see they are soaking wet, like I said it was very wet in that corn field, but we really had a great hunt that day. Too bad we no longer do it, because I am certainly game to do it again somewhere.

I’ve only done it once and only drew feathers, but it was a lot of fun! Other guys had shotguns.

Very cool photos. Sure wish we had them now.

Tony, TBM was scheduled to do a rabbit hunt this past Saturday in Big Pool but it we canceled due to cold and only one rabbit jumped Friday during scouting with dogs.

Very cool photos. Sure wish we had them now.
have they all gone now? being from the uk we release them but sadly not bow hunting, I am presuming you are not allowed to release birds, on another note your turkey hunting looks good, what kind of numbers do you have of these? regards wayne.

Thanks 23feetupandhappy. Here is another pic of some us Traditional Bowhunters Of Maryland on another pheasant hunt. Considering our choice of weapons, I think we did ok.

Hi D J Bullet. Those are some interesting looking heads you made for Pheasant hunting. If you don'T mind me asking, how did you make them? Thanks.

Broadheads are an old Steel Force 125 gr. Legs are made from steel shims that goes on an excavator hand cut them out use JB weld. Shims are super thin and light weight but strong.

Thank you much D JJ BULLET for this info.

Been doing it for years, not many birds taken, but always a fun time

Wayne... there are lots of wild pheasants in this country depending on the state. Regulations vary by state. We also have licenced shooting areas where you pay for the birds and they are released around the farm. It's a very sporting proposition, especially with the bow.
Turkeys are widespread here and are in good numbers. Very huntable with bow. Requires different techniques depending on fall or spring season.
-
Thanks Charlie very interesting, here in the UK we can release Pheasants and Partridge but in Europe I believe it is now banned to release them so numbers are not as good, Regards wayne.

Gotta love it!
My favorite kinda thread. :archer:
