My oldest son Cade will be 4 soon and loves to watch me shoot and retrieve arrows from the bag target. Recently he has started asking when I am going to buy him a "shooter". Not sure if he has the coordination yet, but am curious what ages others have started their sons/daughters and if you have any suggestions for a decent starter bow?
Thank you

As soon as he asked it was time. My boy will be five this month and he's had a bow for two years now.

my daughter started when she was 4. that was 3 years ago. just make sure it is for FUN only.

Awesome picture plucker-I hope you have that one framed!! Any suggestions on a starter bow?

Maddog Pup. Mike is a sponsor and makes a real sweet bow for that age, looks just like Dad's.
-
Now, just keep it fun. Check out Maddog. I hear he is a standup guy.

Dad started me out at the ripe age of four....PLucker, thats a great pic ;) Craig

Both my boys started when they where 3 yrs. old. They are 19 & 17 now still shooting.
-
Agreed, when they show interest...
but make it fun and let them shoot as long as they want too. My boy is three and only shoots about 2-3 arrows before he decides he wants to go play. Force it on them and it will be work and not fun... and you may loose them for a long time.

My son and daughter both started at 3 yrs. old, my son hunted with a compound last fall at age 8. They both love it.

I put this up before but here is my grandson. He stated when he was 2 and in the video is on his 3rd birthday. His bow is an elkridge I got at ATAR. 99 bucks. Don

My youngest son Tyler started shooting at 2 1/2 years old and he WALKED and shot his first 30 target 3-D course at 3 years old.
As for bows.....Take a good look at the Black Rhino Bows. They also have a great "trade in" policy, where you can trade in the bows that he outgrows, for credit towards a heavier bow.
-
4 is a perfect age. They may not last long, and you want a bow that is child proff, (cheap) You'll only need 10 pounds or less at their draw length. Make sure you get really light arrows.
personally I'd wait for the better bows when they get to age 6 or more and show continued interest.
I've made the simple board bows for my grand kids and they work out just fine. You can PM me if you want more info.
Stringplucker that is a great photo.

I will second what woodchucker said, the black rino is a great kids bow, my son loves his. My kids started shooting at around age 3. As long as they are old enough to understand the safety rules they are old enough to shoot!

Batman,
That is one of the best videos I have ever seen!! I think the future of Traditional shooting is great hands!

Curt that boy of your's will shoot like a machine when he's older  I started both of my kids out when they were around five, but I would say if they can safely shoot a bow let them.
