Title: Beman Classic arrow advice needed.
Post by: NDlongbow on April 08, 2008, 10:26:00 AM
Hello all,
I am new to Tradgang and have really enjoyed everything I've read so far.  I am trying to find some carbon arrows that will work with my bow.
I am shooting a Bear Montana 63@29 and currently use 30 inch arrows.  The shelf is cut to center.  I would like to get some Beman ICS MFX Classic arrows, but don't know what shafts would be best for me.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks.

I didn't mention that I would like to keep the point weight around 150 grains.

I'd use a 340 with that setup.

I am only aware of MFX Classics and then there is the ICS models...no ICX MFX Classics..? Anyway, the 340s will spine at a little over 92lbs and the 400s at 78.75lbs. You're shooting at 66# with the 29" draw. So, the 400s might work with 150gr tips. If you go to the 340s you will need more weight upfront.

I'm looking at the MFX Classics.  I should clarify that the bow is marked 60@28, but I am drawing 29 inches for 63#.

I guess I should give you some data for my recommendation...

55@28" Silvertip FF drawing to 29.5"

Full length 340s bare shaft perfect at 125g and cut to 30" bare shaft 260g Snuffers perfect.

Seems you are a little heavier on bow weight and a little lighter on point weight so I think you would be good with the 340.

I think the big difference is the Silvertip is probably cut past center and ND's longbow is only cut TO center.

I shoot 30" 2117/400 out of my Shrew, 52lb @ 29.5" but I have to put 225g on the front of them. Add 10lbs of bow wt minus 75gr of tip wt.

I bet the 400 would be close.

I would get the 340's.  The small diameter makes the arrow closer to center.

I shoot the same weight 60# @ 28. I draw 29, on a beman 400 I bear shaft 200 grains on the front. With the beman 500 I bear shaft a 125 grain.
I hope this will help.

Tunderstick II 62" 60# @ 28

ductape,

how long are your arrows with those tip weights?

The arrows are 30". I've shot the 400's out of a smaller bow 60" 48# 2 28" and never seemed to b able to get them to fly right with any weight combo. I think it is in part the bow, not to brag on my bow but it is the smoothest one I have shot.

I know I couldn't get 400's to work in that set up. I'd have to use 340's... Get one of the test kits from 3 Rivers..  Also, don't get locked into a particular arrow length.. Start with the shafts long and with the weight up front that you intend to shoot.
                             Good luck

ND,
I'm shooting 30.5" 400's out of my Bob Lee,
I draw it to 61 lbs.  The 400's have 75 grain tipped inserts and using 125 heads.  Bareshafted very well, and fly well with feathers.  I've tried heavier heads-150 snuffers, they still fly acceptable- not perfect.
