Hoping maybe we can keep all the hunts in one spot this year.
Would love to have stories and pics from all your hunts in one spot for folks to look at .
The first group of hunters started this morning with some lightning early and just a slight rain shower.
They are from TX and this is their 4th trip here I believe.
Temps are gonna be pretty warm for the first few days, but they ARE from TX so they are after it tonite.
GOOD LUCK GUYS!!

It's been 10-15 degrees above normal. They are seeing some deer , turkeys , and various varmints. They put some cams out and have some buck pics but I haven't seen them yet.
I need to tell them I put this thread up too ! LOL
Oh and Barry saw a big buck coming out one evening. :)

OK, first hunt this year in the books. Miserably hot and humid, the guys saw some deer and I think mmmmissed a turkey. That is real easy to do when you got a couple dozen eyes tryin to pick ya off.
Next hunt is starting on the 28th...

Just returned from Kenny’s lease, Aldo and I had a great time, it’s always nice to see Kenny and sit and talk. The weather this year didn’t cooperate, temps were around 85/90 , rain and humid. We had opportunities at small bucks and does, that we passed on, the last day of the hunt, the temps dropped to 45 degrees, that morning in two hours I saw 27 deer, small bucks and does , all within 5 to 15 yards, passed on them. We learned a long time ago that it’s not about killing something, but about the hunting experience, this hunt is a great experience, we look forward to returning next year. We’d like to thank Kenny again. Kenny it was a pleasure, good luck this season, Ray and Aldo
-
Thank you Ray and Aldo! Enjoyed every visit with you guys!! Weather plays a huge part in a hunt you planned months before. These two guys stayed with it and had deer close, just not the one they wanted.
A few years ago bro and I went to NE to muley hunt, when we rolled into camp the truck showed 106 *
It stayed that way all week, 80 plus at night in the tent was kind of miserable but that was the week we chose months before. Still enjoyed it immensely thru the sweat!

One more day at the office and I'll be on my way! Won't be long now Kenny!

Best of luck David!! :archer2:

Weather is turning to more conducive conditions, gonna be lows in 30s part of the week!!
I saw some bucks near an hour after daybreak yesterday morning!!

David is here and sent me a pic of a buck right under his stand - first hunt! This may get good!!!

There is an old saying that goes, “don’t pass on the first day what you would shoot on the last”. I hope I don’t come to regret this, but I couldn’t get
myself to shoot that deer only two hours into my hunt, not after driving for 22 hours. Then he came back and stood there broadside at 8 yards, tempting me more, and I let him go again. Kicker is, if I hunt there tomorrow night and he does that again, he’s most likely going to get an arrow!! Bright spot, if I had killed that buck I wouldn’t have seen the bigger one I saw this morning!
I’ll post pics when I get better cell coverage.

Get em David
Shoot straight and good luck........looking forward to the update.

The fellows from AR had a memorable hunt. 4 deer down, a first and a best. Shake, rattle, and roll!!
Luke , David ,Darrel, and Noah had a good week!!
They will be along when they get home to post a bit and they have some excellent pics to go with...
They put in the footwork to see what the deer are doing. The stands I have up are in pretty good spots, but food sources and other things can change movement patterns. They capitalize on that by scouting and hanging their stands. I can't scout and move 8 ladder stands with the changes but they are there to hunt when you want and be able to be in a stand first day!!
Rock on Razorbacks!! :)

Yes I think all of us Arkansas boys would agree that this was one of the best trips we have had at Kenny’s if not the best.
We sure made a lot of memories.
Pics and stories soon to follow.

Yes, to me this was my favorite hunt. Not just of our nine trips to Kenny's, but of a lifetime. We all had a great time. We laughed and had a lot of fun and yes almost cried. HaHa. Grandson Luke was on his second trip to Kenny's. He is learning quick. We killed 4 deer two doe and two bucks.
When I revisit this picture posting process today I will post some eye candy.
-
We arrived around midnight Friday night. Unpacked and hit the hay. We hunted Kenny's stands Saturday morning and all saw deer. I saw a real nice buck that I would have burned my buck tag if he had given me the opportunity. I had a staring contest with a mama doe. I lost the contest. Altogether we saw 27 from Kenny's stands on the first morning. It was pretty much the same story each set we made. Tons of deer moving.
We set a few stands up and went to the cabin to get some lunch. That afternoon I hunted with my grandson. We saw 5. Saw another really nice buck but he was just a little too smart for us and came to within about 40 yards.
-
Kenny already gave me a sneak preview of them:)
-
Roy, I may need your help posting some pics.

I’m not a great story teller so probably won’t be too long.
Last year Kenny gave Luke a grunt call. Boy we’ve been hearing that used a lot in two years. Haha. This year he game him some rattling horns to go with it. Think I may let Kenny sit with him a hunt or two to repay him. LOL
I made all the bows taken on this trip. Three longbows and a static recurve. The first to fling an arrow was grandpa. I shot a little doe Sunday morning.
The next to let one go was Luke on Monday morning.

Heck I'd let him use both!!

Just left David Flanrey’s house. He’s elbow deep in deer meat. Lol.
Bet he will get back to story telling soon.

Getting back to the story. The next to loose an arrow was ole grandad. Noah picked out me a spot where deer were wearing out the burr oak acorns. Also had several rubs and scrapes. Got on the stand around 3:30. About 4:00 3 doe came flying into the woods. I looked behind them and a small buck was chasing them. He lost them and it was really bothering him I guess. He stayed withe me looking and trotting around for at least twenty minutes.
At 5:00 it started raining sleeting and snowing. I looked straight ahead and coming over the hill was my buck. Grunting and trotting he came right to where the doe had entered the woods earlier. Instead of coming on into the woods he turned and headed to where the little buck had walked by me. He came broadside at 23 yards and I let it go. I had just gut shot the biggest buck of my 56 years. I was sick!!
We decided to wait till morning to look for him. Not wanting to push him. Didn’t get much sleep to say the least. We went out the next morning way before daylight because I had used an arrow with a lighted nock. Didn’t find him. So we got on our stands for another set.
-
As I sat there that morning I stared a hole in the ground where he stood when I shot. While I was moping Noah was shooting. He had been seeing one buck after another the entire hunt but none would give him a shot. He was going home the next morning so time was running out. He had a big 9 that came lose enough but behind too much brush. Had another real nice 6 come and do the same thing. But as Noah put it the 5 pointer caught him in a real bad mood. He shot him at about 10 yards. We had a fairly long track job. Tough buck! But with ole eagle eye Luke’s help we found him.
-
After we tracked Noah’s buck up and took some pics we headed back to look for mine again. The boys tried to cheer me up and said that they were optimistic about finding him but I wasn’t. Luke asked how many points he had and how big the rack was. LOL I told him I was trying not to look. He looked like a big four wheeler with antlers to me. We spread out and started walking. Rain and snow had washed away any sign there would have been. I bet we hadn’t looked over 5-10 minutes and I walked right up on him. I let out a big holler that I had found him. I don’t usually get really emotional or excited like I used to but that was a big relief. I’ve lost some deer and it is a terrible feeling. And to lose one like this would have been even more tragic. He had only gone about 200 yards. When I shot him he was quartering away some apparently because I caught some ribs on exit side. Got some liver along with gut.
I was shooting my 64” three piece using a Grizzly 145 grain single bevel with 100 grain brass insert. And the lighted nock was still burning inside the buck after 18 hours.
-
Oh yeah, Luke told me and Noah that “ if we would just drop um we wouldn’t have to look for them”. Sage advice! :archer2:
-
LOL on Luke's advise:)
That's how he does it.
See that Pap, I dropped her right there:)
-
From David's description of arrow placement and quartering away a bit I was sure hoping for liver. Great that it was!!
-
What a trip! Congratulations to y’all that’s a real good and successful time love seeing the youngsters out there :clapper:
-
Congrats to all
Glad you didn’t give up and found your buck. Dedication/persistence are most important when they don’t fall within “selfie distance” like Luke’s.
-
Congrats to everyone! That is awesome!
-
Congrats to you guys on your trip! Seems successes were many in a lot of areas, great to hear.
-
That’s how ya do it! One for the memory books right there! Congrats boys!

This is Noah, David's son. It was a tremendous hunt as always but this one is one I'll never forget. I'm not a good story-teller either but here it goes.
On the first day of the hunt Dad and I saw a small buck in the area that he would later shoot his big one, while we were riding the 4-wheeler. That evening I saw another buck in that area as I was riding the 4-wheeler back to the cabin. The next morning we saw more deer in that area and I said, "We need to put a stand in there." We put off hanging a stand there as we were looking at other potential hunting spots. At one point while looking at other spots Dad and I looked at one another and we both agreed to go back to where I had been seeing all the deer from the 4-wheeler. I'm glad we did! We looked it over for a few minutes and found a split hickory tree that seemed to be in shooting range of the deer sign. Darrell and I hung the stand and cut a shooting lane. The rest is history. That afternoon Dad shot his big buck.
When we found it the next day, Dad was so excited and I was too. I remember him saying, "This is everyone's deer. Noah found the spot, Darrell and Noah hung the stand, I did the shooting, and Luke did the talking!" :biglaugh: The last part of that couldn't be any more true. I've never tried to move or drag a bigger deer it was enormous. The pictures really don't do it justice.
My deer was small, but I was happy to be able to take it on the next to last day of the hunt. It sure will taste good. I had some close encounters with some nice bucks (none as big as Dad's) but none would offer me a good shot. When the small 5 pointer came in just right and offered a fairly easy shot, I just couldn't resist. I feel like I made a decent shot, but it sure did run a long way and didn't bleed very much. Good thing we had Luke's young eyes on the blood trail! It ran a 200 yards or so and upon inspection, I had gotten 1 lung on the shot instead of 2. Either way, he expired and we were able to make the recovery.
Luke is going to have to teach me how to drop them like he did. :biglaugh: Good job Luke. I didn't take my first deer with traditional gear until I was 16 or so. I'm impressed.

What an awesome family hunt! Way to go guys!

David, congrats on an epic week, lasting memories for sure. You certainly must be one proud Grampa.
Things are heating up here at Kennys......And as always Kenny is the ultimate host.

Don't mean to drag this one out. It's been a long day and I'll get some details posted with pics tomorrow. I'll just say my Missouri buck is currently resting comfortably at the Purdin Meat Locker. Not a giant but a splendid buck he is.......I'll tell my story tomorrow. Gotta love spending time with Kenny, it just doesn't get any better!

Great hunts by all, David I was there the just before you, saw plenty of deer and failed to close the deal on really nice buck.
Looking forward to the rest of your story Mike. And you are right......Kenny is a great host!
David

David, Kenny told me where you saw the big one. I've been hunting at Kenny's now for nine years. We always see deer in that area. It is a natural pinch area for them I guess. Was this your first trip?
-
Nope, second trip Dave. Hope to keep it going in the coming years.

I hope Steve posts his buck fight vid and Mike does pics of his deer!
The best part for me is meeting like minded folks !!
PS - still have a hunt open after gun season when the deer move in due to no pressure...;)

That would be a great hunt Kenny.

Finally caught up around home after returning from spending time with Kenny in Linneus last week. It’s been a race to get unpacked and do the fall cleanup at home prior to getting hammered by winter here in Michigan a month earlier than expected.
Rolled into Missouri Saturday evening. After hitting Walmart in Brookfield to buy our tags and provisions for the upcoming week it was on to the cabin. This was our 7th year hunting the lease and it’s always a pleasant surprise to see what updates the owner has done to the cabin in the previous year. What a great setup and it’s hardly recognizable from our first stay in September of 2013.
-
Kenny had contacted me the day before we made our drive from Michigan asking if we needed a couple of Honda four wheelers left at the cabin for us to use. With the snows of the week before, the two tracks to access the deeper tracts of the North and South farm were too wet for truck traffic.
What a leg saver, most of the North farm can be hunted by foot but to reach the western reaches of the South farm require a mile and a quarter hike. Not to sound like a softy, a hike of that length is no problem. Getting a deer out is a whole different story.

The weather report for the week of our hunt looked promising, dry with favorable and predictable winds. Cold weather was in the forecast but nothing out of the ordinary for that time of the year in Linneus.
I’d been there in January of 2014.......brutal to say the least.
-
Over the years this hunt has became a place where we can just relax and step out of the rat race for a week. The harvest is secondary to the experience and it’s such a great place to unwind. Nothing calms the nerves more than a Missouri sunrise.

Through the years we’ve been able to make our way up to the number two slot to select a week to hunt the lease.
I can’t tell you how excited I was when the call came in the spring from Kenny and it was our turn to pick a week. The rut/pre-rut week was available. Didn’t take much thinking about that one other than making sure it fit everyone’s schedule.
It turned out to be perfect timing......big bucks cruising during daylight hours on the hunt for willing ladies. Not in lock down mode but just enough hot does to keep them on the prowl. The best time to be in the woods.
This guy was just chillin in the field, wind to his back and facing downwind on the lookout for any danger. Not too concerned anyone was watching, he knew he could quickly get to safety if needed.
-
I spent the first couple of days hunting locations on both the North and South farm. I’d seen deer on all sits but nothing within shooting range. My companions both had “heart stoppers” in range but the angle or position didn’t produce a shot. We saw plenty of buck activity including this rub that Steve came across.

Tuesday morning found me in the #4 stand in the northwest corner of the South farm. With the stand facing north and the wind out of the northwest I was comfortable remaining undetected to a keen nose. About 8:00am I caught movement out of the corner of my eye about 50 yards southwest of me. Two deer, moving through cover too thick and far away to identify sex or size......
-
This should be good
-
Their path was quickly taking them further from me and in a direction that would lead them straight downwind of my location. I did the only thing I could think of at the time, pull out my grunt call that’s been in my pocket on many memorable hunts since I bought it 25+ years ago. It’s been the undoing of many bucks over the years.
Three soft grunts and I saw a pair of legs through the brush immediately stop, change direction and start heading my way......
-
On a side note I’ve always been confident in my shooting but a mishap in the summer of 2018 involving a little dog and some clumsiness on my part took me out of the game for the entire 2018 season. I was sidelined by a broken wrist on my string hand complicated by a torn TFCC. It took me about six months to even get a bow drawn back and another three months to shoot with minimal pain. It still hurts but I’m working through it. Needless to say the layoff did nothing to help my proficiency or confidence and in the back of my mind I was painfully aware of that.
-
Based on that I made the decision doe or buck, if a shot I was comfortable with presented itself I was taking it. I had every reason to believe it was a buck due to its response to the grunt call.
As the deer continued in my direction and closed the distance I could finally identify him as a 1 1/2 year old buck. At 12 yards broadside I drew and released. The arrow struck him and he dropped in his tracks.
I lowered my bow and climbed down to put a second arrow in him. 12 yard shot, 8 yard recovery.
My 2019 Missouri buck.......

The Honda from Kenny and my Beavertail sled were just the ticket for the mile and a quarter ride to the truck.

Just kidding, thanks for sharing and congrats.
