Title: First Limb Off my Jig First ever Glue up--Help
Post by: oldfartfarmer on October 29, 2019, 04:25:59 AM
Ok so I got my limb off the Jig, But, I forgot(brain-Farted :banghead:)
putting something on the sides of the jig, so it wouldent glue itself to it,
there was only a small 1/8-1/4 rim of tape over the sides from the tape on top of the jig,
and that probably saved my butt, somewhat,
I got it pried off,
and ended up lifting a section of the "bear-Glass" cracking it, left side in pic
then another section on the right side that looks like it lifted and cracked

need some profesional help on how to re-glue this up,
Its on the inside curve,,sorry I cant remember belly from back
but I think its the Bolt/washer side as curve goes forewards when holding the handle

Thank you
John

John as far as I can see in your pics when you grind your front view you should be able to get around that from
The pic it looks like its on the edge unless Im missing some thing, bow making is problem solving 101  :bigsmyl:

this is one limb, for a Take-Down Bow,
the cracked pic, is where it will mount onto the Riser, the area where the bolts will go into the riser

If that is just cracked put some thin super glue in it right now. Then see how much is showing after you grind the sides to width. If that is the side to the riser nobody will see it or you can block sand the pad area and overlay it.  And dont crack the next one  :bigsmyl:

When holding the bow to shoot it, the belly of the bow faces your BEER belly.

The back of the bow faces the target.

Ya might be ok with that crack with what they said above.

Welcome to bow building:)

Its the Back side then, and ill be overlaying it anyways because of the backwards way I did my riser  :biglaugh:
Not drilling it first before carving it out and sanding it,, so ive got to cover up my "pin/alignment hole"

Thank you all for your patience and lessons

Now you can answer your own question; "how much is too much"

On the front be sure to keep the overlay short s not to be flexing when shooting. If they flex they will pop up in the fade area.
