Just sent the money order out for a real nice looking Mentor. 45#@29 1/2,62” long. Anybody out there shoot or own one. What’s you opinion. This is a one piece cocobolo and osage.
-
I had shot a friend’s some years ago. It was a very nice bow. Wes Wallace is a class act for sure.
-
Thought you were downsizing RON? Haha congrats on the new bow

Very nice, solid, bows. I like that he offers them in different wood/price levels.
I have been looking over a Stealth one piece in gray. Just a couple pounds too heavy, but not out of range too far.
-
Over the years I’ve probably owned 5 or 6 of Wes’s bows first class all the way.His Mentor, in my opinion is as good as it gets ,you did well.
-
Tim B, have sold a few....... :dunno:
-
So only 3-4 people have shot one of these.....Not sure I believe that !!

I have a WW Mentor II that i picked up from a classified add, a while ago. I got this several years ago as a back up recurve to my Hatfield. I was able to get dialed in after just a couple rounds. I like it. My Mentor has a good weight to it which I like for stability and I shoot well with it. I have since started shooting Longbows more.

Ive owned a couple, great solid all arounder with a mass heavy riser great grip shape and deceptively quick, not to mention smooth. There are some bows that are quieter , a little quicker, and fancier, but none Id say are emphatically better, just different. Wes is a real mensch and takes amazing care of his customers. Id own one again. They are 100% handmade with a little character to the fit/finish, but beautifully done, like a nice old worn in pair of expensive Tony Lama cowboy boots that fit and feel perfect like and familiar like an old friend. Durable, reliable.

I tried one while at the Traditional Bow Hunters of Florida tournament. It was a very nice shooting bow. I was shooting a longbow and still do for the most part. I would have no problem having one. Enjoy your new bow.

I don't own a mentor, Ron. But, I had Wes make a set of limbs for a Brackenbury Drifter and Brackenbury Shadow. In addition, I visited his shop when I was on vacation in Oregon. Wes demonstrated the difference between my drifter and his Mentor. It's a superior bow to the Drifter. And, the Drifter has not let me down.
I can't believe you'd disappointed with Wes.

No experience but I know craftsmanship when I see it 👍

Had a 3 piece stealth about 20 yrs ago and traded it off, instant regret. Shot other bows from Wes over the years, all great bows. Ordered a one piece green stealth last year and love the way it shoots. You cant go wrong with one of his bows.
-
You screwed up getting a bow from Wes.... you'll be plunking down more cash shortly to buy the other models he makes also... or just another mentor or several.
Incase my sarcasm didn't come through... this is an endorsement of Wes and his products. EXCELLENT bows.
You did well getting that bow.

My take down Mentor is the only Recurve I own. Not sure I'll ever need another. And notice I typed need, not want... :goldtooth:
-
It came today...... wow
-
Here it is.

Thanks Ken, this a beautiful bow !!! Have not shot it yet because mail was late today. It draws smooth as a fresh jar of Skippy. Cocobolo and Osage are my favorite wood combo and this a great example. Can’t wait to shoot it tomorrow.
-
Hey Ron, I have a Mentor, and it is my main bow. for well over a decade now. It is 58# and it draws super smooth. Nothing bad to say about it at all. And Wes is a class act all the way.
-
Like that Osage after it mellows a bit. Pretty bow.
-
Shooting this new to me Mentor is a great experience , smooth and quiet, very much like my old Black Widow MA that I should have never sold. This is a keeper for sure

I never owned a Mentor but my LB is his Royal. I had the tip overlay come off. I called him about a repair. He said, “ no charge, my bows don’t break”. I am not the orginal owner! I had him refinish it as well, think he charged me $100 plus back and forth shipping. But he replaced both tips and added more overlays for more support. New grip as well. Looked like a brand new bow. So in short I can’t say enough about his customer service.

I traded with a good friend for mine and I love it. As I've said before, it is a very solid bow and would seem to take lots of abuse while exhibiting great shooting qualities.
-
Sweet bow, Ron! Enjoy!
-
I'd call that a win/win, Ron! :clapper:
-
Good looking bow, Ron. I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot. Will you be shooting it a TBG in a few months?
-
I think I will be shooting it a lot Sam.....
-
Like that Osage after it mellows a bit. Pretty bow.
I live watching osage mellow over the years. Beautiful bow there.

I've had my Mentor for about 25 years, never once thought about selling or trading it. Talked to Wes twice on the phone. Quality guy who makes a quality bow, can't go wrong with that combination.
