Title: W2 & jigged micarta hunter
Post by: bjansen on December 03, 2019, 07:39:32 AM
Here is a little hunter I finished up in jigged Micarta.  61.5RC W2 Blade and stainless shield.  I wanted to make a fixed blade that looked like a little trapper slipjoint I was working on....so I simply traced out the open profile of the slipjoint - you can see the resemblance in the last pic.

Oh my, thats awesome! Do you mind sharing your process of giving the micarta the jigged look? That really gives it an amazing look and I bet it feels good as well!

Thanks and yes, happy to share.  I will first pre-shape my handles (I did this prior to gluing them on as I wanted to install and pin the shield in place to the scale..and I could not do that once the scales were glued on). After my scales were shaped, I used round edge wheel burr in my foredom.  Just run it at slow speeds and just eat away chunks and it gives a nice look and feel to the knife.

I then glued in and pinned my shield and then glued the scales on the knife.  Following the glue set up, I ground the oversized scales edges flush with the tang and then installed and peened the pins.

I got the 5/8" round edge wheel burr from McMaster Carr.
