Good afternoon , Sorry but real sure where to ask this question , new to tradgang .
I finally pulled out my hunter 7090 bow ( Dang Covid 😊 😊 ) , anyway , someone gave me this bow about 25 years ago and it’s been put away sense . I just received my new string but maaaaan I can’t get it placed on the recurve bow .
Does sitting so long do anything to a bow ? And what new string do you recommend to place on it .
Markings on it are
AE_54 77
58
50 x – 28
Help would be greatly appreciated very much
Thx

Not exactly sure what you're asking, but it sounds like a Ben Pearson Hunter 7090, 58", 51#@28". If so, the string should be about 54" long and adjustable within reason by twisting. Have you strung a recurve before?

Friend,
Get yourself a bow stringer from 3Rivers or some other such place. I like the Selway the best but they all work well enough. Recurves are MUCH easier to string with a stringer.
It looks to me like its a 58 inch bow pulling 50 lbs at 28 inch draw length. Since its an older bow don't use a Fast-Flight or other super string, stick with a standard performance dacron one.
I don't know of anything that would go wrong with a fiberglass laminated bow that would make it change it draw weight or shape. I have heard that leaving a bow with a stress on it for a long time in a hot place like the trunk of a car can ruin them but I have bows that are 50 years old that still draw and shoot like I remember them doing when new.
Good luck!

Hi and thx for the replies , One reply said I need a 54 inch string ?? I order what I thought was the correct string , they sent me a 49 inch string . The bow measures 53 inches from tip to tip without strung . ??????

Based on the markings, I suppose it could be either a 54” bow or a 58” bow. I assume you measured along the recurves and not directly nock-to-nock? If so you probably have a 54” bow, and your 49” string might work, although it seems a little short to me. If it is a dacron string, which it should be, it might stretch to fit after a little shooting. When you string it, the distance from the string to the inside of the handle should be about 7 - 7 1/2”, which is the brace height. Don't try to string it if it looks like the brace height will be 8 1/2” or more. You might be able to find out a more precise brace height for that bow from someone.

Good morning and thx so much for the reply and suggestions . I did not measure the curves of the bow , I did measure from end to end . I will however measure the curves on bow . It will probably end up being a 58" . So sould I get the appropriate string for that 4" shorter than the length ???
Sorry but a bit new to this sense the bow has been sitting for sometime .
Thx

Great as recommended NEVER string any bow without a stringer. Welcome to the addiction that is Traditional archery.
