Oh... and including the handle as its rough and dry.
-
As far as the handle goes, Are you wanting to put new scales on it or just restore the handle as is?
-
Restore Sir.... like to keep it original.
-
I’d be happy to help ya out, that would be a fun project. Just let me know and we can get something worked out.

One way to save that handle, you could use Minwax wood hardener.
But it would give it an amber tone which in my opinion would look good.
Just paint it on quickly and repeatedly until you see it building up on the surface.
Let it set for a day and fine sand it smooth.
And then, True Oil to finish.

Did this project ever get done ?? :dunno:

Not yet Ron, I have not received the cleaver yet. I’m sure Terry got busy!

Old cleavers are great. Picked this one up with intentions to fix up but just have cleaned up the edge and keep using. Mostly I butcher my ducks with it but is very handy for small game, cabbage and every other excuse I can find. Looking forward to the rehap project when done Terry and ks.
