Hey all, I've been away from the forum for quite a while, but recently was able to move to a new house with some land and a place to shoot! I've been getting back into it and one of the best parts about it is that my kids are old enough to really start enjoying archery with me.
I have a couple of bows for them, but we are pretty low on arrows that will fly half way decent out of them. They have a 30lb long bow and a 25ish at draw length recurve. Kids that are currently interested in shooting are 12, 10, 7, and 5 years old. I've done a little searching, but not sure what arrows I should get for them. Anyone have any suggestions on good youth arrows or shafts, and where to order them?

Have you tried 3 Rivers, I bought some a few years ago for my grand kids and they worked ok.

My kids 9 & 10 seem to have good luck with 3river wood youth arrows. They're drawing about 18 and 25.
Easton Jazz and Tribute go that low on spine, but little kids will probably bend them pulling from targets. Lancaster sells the Tribute with feathers. I'm actually using Easton Jazz myself on a 25# recurve 'cause they're $3/shaft. I don't let the kids pull my arrows.
Easton has the Apollo line in carbon for low weights. That avoids the bending.

Three Rivers youth arrows are a good buy. Plus, you get 5/16 shafts, instead of the 1/4 some people sell. I took off those cheap points and installed real field point, so they would actually stick in a target.

I have taught many kids in this age group over the years. For many years, I would match up the correct aluminum arrow with the bow: 1516’s with a 15# bow, 1616's for a 25# bow, etc. Recently, I have started using PSE Razorback carbon arrows, in .1000 spine at 28”. These are certainly a lot zippier than the corresponding aluminum arrows, and work for a wide range of bows up to about 25#. While they are a little more expensive than aluminums, they are cheaper than the average carbon arrow. I buy mine from Lancaster.
FWIW, my experience is that kids in the 8-10 age group are much happier with 15# bows, and are able to control them well enough to learn good shooting habits. Kids over 10, and women of just about any age, are happy with 25# bows until and unless they begin to take it more seriously.

I buy youth arrows from Rose City Archery by the dozen but only when they're about $1.50 each. For whatever reason, sometimes they cost twice that. So I just hold off until the price goes back down or they have a sale. My kids break or lose at least one every time we hit the 3D range -- usually a couple.
I changed out the points for some 125 grain glue-ons and they fly pretty well out of my <40 lb board bows that are cut about 1/4" from center. They're still a little stiff on my 40 lb bow so probably still running around 30-35 spine (cut to 27.5", I think).
They're cheaply made. But they're cheap. For what are basically disposable arrows given to kids to do what kids do, they're great!

I just got my son a 6 pack of PSE Razorbacks from Lancaster. They're great so far. The field points are actually sharp enough to stick in the target, which is more than I can say for most kid arrows we tried.

I have seen some at Big Jims that look like they would be good for kids bows cant remember the name but think they were 1400 maybe 1600 spine.Might be worth checking out.... :smileystooges: reminds of kids...
