I'm trying to bare shaft tune by setup. What I'm now realizing is that I'm getting nock high readings and different arrow flight based on what finger I'm appliying more string pressure to. I'm shooting 3 under off the shelf. When I apply more pressure to my index finger I'm getting nock high and seeing a bit more erratic arrow flight. When I apply more string pressure to my ring finger the arrow is flying almost perfect! So my question is on which finger do I want the majority of the string pressure to be on at full draw? Is there a right answer?

I get best results by doing the opposite: when I put more pressure on my index finger, my bare shafts fly with a lower nock than when I put more pressure on my ring finger. In general, the recommendation is to put the most pressure on the middle finger, less pressure on the index finger, and least of all on the ring finger. However, the overriding recommendation for everything is to be consistent. I tried for a while increasing the pressure on my middle finger and got inconsistent results, so I went back to the way that was most comfortable for me, which may be more than the recommended amount of pressure on my index finger.

The ring finger has been referred to as the 'bad finger' in archery. Shooting with just the index and middle finger has been a viable staple for some.

It would make sense to me that the most pressure when shooting three under would be on the index finger, just thinking of the dynamics of the process. Shooting split I would think it should move down more to the middle finger. JMO

Sadly I am one of those that put the most pressure on the third finger.
I have an issue with the tendons on the back of my hand and I can't help it. When I shoot a lot I actually get a calous on the pad of my third finger.
It causes me to have to shoot a higher nock point.

After clicking on Terry's link it made me go hhhmmm. I went out to my pole barn and grabbed a bow and drew, and let down several times trying not to move my fingers, it was very similar to what he was showing. Most of the pressure was on my middle finger with both index, and ring finger slightly offset back from it. I tried it pulling both split and three under with the same results.

Glad your getting it figured out,I take a lot deeper hook than what Mr.Green is showing in his pictures.What works for me may not work for others lol...

Yeah, I like the 1st grooves as it keeps the back of my hand straight and 1st bones in fingers as well, with less tension on both.

Keeping tension out of my string hand is the reason I went to a deep hook....Just another fine example of there's more than one way to skin a cat...Should mention I shoot 3 under,can go split,but prefer 3 under for hunting and occasional 3d shoot...
To answer the OP's origanal question, my pointer and middle finger has most of the string pressure on them.Something along the lines of 40% pointer ,40% middle, and 20% ring if I had to put a percentage value to it ...

Not everyone has the same length fingers, you can find what works best, 1st joint of the middle/long finger, or if a deep hook is more comfortable. Try picking up a pale of water with your drawing hand, it does not have to be heavy. What you want is a smooth line from the fingers and back of the hand, it is then relaxed. A deep hook is between the first and second joint. When pulling the bow the fingers should never tighten around the string, it will cause the arrow to fall off the rest.

I am not sure witch finger gets the most pressure, but! When I started using more 'hook' my shooting greatly improved.
Being self taught, I always thought less hook was better, but not true for me.
I shoot 3 under, line up the 'crease' on each finger and have to remember use more hook!

I have a video somewhere of how to Place your fingers on the string so that your arrow does not fly off the shelf. I use this method when I reverse cant.

Isn't that clip on The Bowhunters of Tradgang DVD? I think its one of the many segments in the shooting category.
