Title: Band saw resaw sled
Post by: Appalachian Hillbilly on November 08, 2021, 08:36:27 PM
Got my resaw sled made today! 30" long. Plans are to use it to make my riser blocks and set ups. Made it from a left over piece of cabinet plywood from when I made my kitchen island.

Had a huge ash tree fall last night by the house. Going to cut some of it up.

Here is a piece of ash from the firewood stack. Some of it has some cool stuff going on on the outer layers. So far I am really liking this bandsaw.  Saws very straight. The little cyclone on the 5 gallon bucket works like a charm as well.

Ash is not strong enough to make a riser.
You need to I beam it.
I use better riser woods so I don't use I beams

You want your grain running this way ,back to belly

Thanks Max, that is what I thought. Most strength that way. Suppose the accent lams should follow same rule as well.

No on the accent stripes, they will add strength to the riser

?? Which way should the grain run in the accent stripes?

Doesn't matter for strength, just so your not grinding to thickness on end grain

That makes perfect sense!

Thanks again!

I think edge grain would be fine as accent between thicker pieces. Basic Aboo vertical laminated is edge grain thickness between glass. The old actionwood lams were ground the same way but you need the grain where is has no runout.
