Title: How about Rookie of the Year bow?
Post by: Mike Malvaini on March 26, 2022, 02:56:38 PM
I'm enjoying the Hall of Fame thread greatly.  But got to wondering with all you folks that have to get a new bow or 5 every year if you ever had a rookie of the year bow?  You know, one that you went on a tear with from the get go right out of the gate.

Mine would be a Black Widow PSA.

Primal Tech 2 piece longbow.  I slaughtered the pigs with it from the beginning.

Great post.  All of my hall of fame bows were rookies of the year in their time. At the moment I do have one that is rookie of the year in progress... she pulled a TX Hat Trick earlier this year on her 1st hunt. Centaur.

Of course the 3 piece took the crown soon after.

Mine would still be MOAB 60" 62#@27".   Started with a turkey, then hogs and deer.  Doubled a couple times on hogs.

Mine would be a 3 piece Toelke Lynx longbow which is no longer made.  i call it my magic bow.  Before i got it i used to buy at least one new bow a year.  It has killed a bunch of animals (mostly deer and hogs) and has traveled from Alaska to South Africa with me.

I’m no fan of widows but I’d have to say my best initial start was with a PSA. To keep things short, I got it in Oct. First hunt went to tree and was about to tie up. Some does came in and I shot one. Next hunt I went into a cut cornfield sorta late. Jacked up, pulled up my bow, that same PSA. Looked at my watch as I pulled up bow. 5:23. Noticed a buck standing there. Shot him, watched him fall over. Still 5:23 on my watch.
I don’t typically hunt bows forever so my stretches can’t go real long. My uncles old bear last year, first hunt 45 min in. Dead doe, next day 1-1/2 in. Dead doe.
Couple weeks later got a KMag off Randog. Received it Thursday. Tuned it Fri, Sat. 1/2 hr in first hunt I had a buck was too dark to shoot for my compromised eyes, was legal light but moments later I could see well enough and shot a doe behind it.
Hunt long enough I guess things happen

Terry it would be both for me. The first year I had it I couldn’t miss!  It was like “magic”..thus the name. I kept putting it down and going back to one of my Cari-bow Peregrines which would be a close 2nd on both counts. But my Lynx is my go-to bow now especially as I get older. Very smooth drawing and easy on my shoulders!

I hear ya Randy, all my HOFer MOABS were Rookie of the Year also.  I'm sure I'll add that 50#er one day when I start hunting with it. Rob had it for years and sent it to me a couple of years ago when I was talking about getting some lower pound bows for when I get older.  I'm sure this Centaur will be a HOFer as well.

A 56" Treadway Black Forrest.  It shoots where I look. No matter how long it has been since I have shot it. With only 18 months of archery under my belt, I took a buck with it on my second hunt.

My little "shorty" 58 " 60@30 Black Widow PCH. First season took a good buck and its been hot ever since.   Last year I was trying to blood a new PMAX in Canada.  Hunted out of a treestand for three days and never took a shot.  The next morning I was in a ground blind so I took  the PCH. I was tagged out by ten.  And that has happened more than once.  Start the season with something else and then fill a tag with the PCH.  Its lucky!
